There are several kinds of visas for visiting China, such as tourism, visiting relatives, business, frontier, studying abroad, Shang Yan, crew, journalists, diplomats, officials and employment. Apply to the embassy of China in the host country.

(1) Tourist visa (L visa): issued to foreign citizens who come to China to travel, visit relatives or come to China for other private affairs. In principle, visitors to China must provide proof that they have enough travel expenses to China, and when necessary, they must provide plane, car and boat tickets for countries (regions) after leaving the country. When visiting relatives in China, invitations from domestic relatives are needed when necessary.

(2) Visiting visa (F visa): issued to those who are invited to visit China, study, give lectures, do business, conduct scientific and cultural exchanges, and study and practice in China for not more than six months. Applicants must hold the certificate of the receiving unit or the competent department, that is, the Application Form for Foreign Students to Study in China (JW20 1 Form or JW202 Form), the admission notice and the physical examination records of foreigners.

(4) Work visa (Z-visa): issued to people who come to China for employment or their accompanying families, as well as foreign citizens who come to China for commercial performances. According to different situations, applicants must provide employment permit certificates of China people and foreign nationals (employment permit certificates are applied by employers in China to the labor departments of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), or certificates of permanent representatives in China and visa notification letters from authorized units, approval letters from the Ministry of Culture or provincial cultural departments (bureaus), visa notification from foreign affairs offices of relevant provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and other related materials.

(5) Transit visa (G visa): issued to foreign citizens transiting through China to a third country. The applicant must hold a valid visa and a joint air ticket to the country (region).

(6) Crew visas (Class C visas): issued to crew members of international trains, crew members of international aircraft, seafarers and their accompanying families who perform crew, aviation and shipping tasks. The applicant shall provide relevant certificates agreed by both parties or stipulated by the Chinese side.

(7) journalist visa (J visa): a visa issued to journalists. Among them, J- 1 visa is issued to foreign journalists resident in China; J-2 visas are issued to foreign journalists who come to China temporarily to cover. The applicant must hold a certificate from the competent department of China.

(8) Residence visa (D visa): issued to foreign citizens who come to settle in China. The applicant or his entrusted relatives in China shall apply to the exit-entry administration department of the municipal or county public security bureau applying for settlement with the confirmation form of settlement identity.
