Can I travel to Canada with a Maple Leaf Card during the current epidemic?

Yes. The Canadian federal government recently announced a pilot testing project to replace the mandatory 14-day quarantine with rapid COVID-19 testing.

Canada has named Alberta as the first pilot project to offer COVID-19 testing options at Calgary International Airport and the Coutts land crossing on the southern U.S.-Canada border starting November 2.

If the traveler receives a negative COVID-19 test result, the 14-day self-isolation period can be shortened to approximately 48 hours.

Governor Kenney said at a press conference last Thursday: "We must enact simple policies to promote safe travel."

"While there is a lot of work to be done, However, we can see hope for a return to normal travel.”

This voluntary option is a joint pilot project between the province of Alberta and the Canadian federal government.

01 Four categories of people are suitable:

1. Canadian citizens;

2. Permanent residents PR;

3. Currently allowed to enter Foreigners in Canada;

4. Essential workers who qualify for exemptions.

02 Ineligible international travelers:

1. Foreign travelers entering Canada for business or leisure purposes;

2. Returning to Canada but traveling to other provinces (To participate in the pilot, you must stay in Alberta for 14 days).

03 How to test?

International passengers are tested upon arrival. If the test result is negative, they do not need to quarantine, but they must quarantine on the 6th or 7th day after arrival. Take the second test. Travelers participating in the pilot project must closely monitor symptoms every day and are required to take strengthened preventive epidemic prevention measures, such as wearing masks in public places and avoiding visiting high-risk groups.

Calgary Airports Authority President Bob Sartor said: “Calgary International Airport is proud to be the only government-approved airport in Canada to test pilot international arriving flights, which we hope will reduce and eliminate the current 14-day quarantine requirement."

A timetable for when the program will begin has not yet been announced, but sources told the Toronto Sun it is expected to begin at Toronto Pearson Airport or Carr. Gary Airport before rolling it out to other locations across Canada.
