Objectives of the International Organization for Migration

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a non-political humanitarian organization, whose purpose is to ensure the orderly flow of immigrants to receiving countries by cooperating with other countries to deal with the immigration problem. To this end, five functions are specified, namely:

(1) Arrange for those who are unable to emigrate due to inadequate services of existing facilities or lack of special assistance to move to countries that provide opportunities for orderly migration;

(2) to participate in the organized migration of refugees, displaced persons and other individuals who need international migration services, and to make arrangements for these people by the organization and relevant countries, including countries that promise to accept these people;

(3) provide immigration services, such as recruitment, selection, classification, language training, orientation activities, physical examination, placement, activities conducive to reception and integration, and provide consulting services and other assistance in line with the objectives of the organization at the request of the countries concerned and in agreement with them;

(4) Providing similar services for the voluntary return of migrants, including voluntary repatriation, at the request of countries or in cooperation with other relevant international organizations;

(5) To provide a forum for countries, international organizations and other organizations to exchange views and experiences, and to promote cooperation and coordination of efforts on international migration issues, including studying these issues to find practical solutions.
