What does Gu Er mean?

Emei people call Gu Er the second daughter.

Emei dialect belongs to the southwest mandarin system, and it belongs to Renfu patch in Sichuan dialect. As a branch of Chinese in China, it has its own characteristics in language, vocabulary and grammar. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, due to several great migrations, foreigners and locals assimilated each other in language, forming a West Sichuan language family dominated by Chengdu dialect.

The language of Emei is similar to that of surrounding counties, but there are some differences. Due to the mutual influence, there are often neutralization and ambiguity in language and pronunciation in places bordering neighboring counties. For example, Emei people call their second daughter "Er (Er) Gu Er", while some places in Lian Yue Township adjacent to Jiajiang County are called "Er (Er) Nv". The pronunciation of the word "er" belongs to Emei phonology, and the address of the word "female" is influenced by Jiajiang dialect. For another example, people in Fuxi Town, adjacent to Yanlong Township, Suji Town, Leshan Central District, said that "yesterday" was "Yan" and "last night" was "Yan", which was similar to Yanlong's accent and was neutral.
