Water conservancy and hydropower engineering

The Department of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering is one of the most advantageous and historically traditional engineering departments in Tsinghua University. Its history can be traced back to the Water Conservancy Group of the Civil Engineering Department of Tsinghua University, which was founded in 1929. Teachers and students of this department participated in the key technology research of almost all major water conservancy and hydropower projects in China, such as Gezhouba Dam, the first dam of the Yangtze River, Three Gorges Project, the world-famous South-to-North Water Transfer Project. From 1958, Miyun Reservoir, the largest water control project in North China at that time, which was designed by all teachers and students, to two internationally advanced RCC arch dams, Xibing in Fujian and Shimenzi in Xinjiang, which were independently designed and built in recent ten years, all condensed the wisdom and creativity of all teachers and students.
