Geographical overview of Dateng Gorge

Dateng Gorge: a section of the canyon in the lower reaches of the Qianjiang River in the Xijiang River system of the Pearl River Basin. It is the largest, longest and most famous river canyon in Guangxi. It has majestic mountains, beautiful peaks, rapid water, dangerous beaches and beautiful scenery. It is known as the "Three Gorges" of Guangxi. The entrance of Dadeng Gorge is located at Lema Beach near Lema Village in the southeast corner of Wuxuan County, Guangxi, and the exit is located at Nutan Beach in the northwest corner of Guiping City, with a total length of 41 kilometers. Legend has it that a large vine originally stretched across the river, sinking during the day and floating at night, allowing people to cross the river, hence the name Dadeng Gorge. The canyon is formed by the Qianjiang River waterway between the Dayao Mountains and the Lianhua Mountains. On the left side of the entrance to the gorge is Dadeng Mountain in the Dayao Mountains, and on the right is Lema Mountain in the Lianhua Mountains. The two mountains face each other and look like a gate to the sky. From here down there is an obvious canyon terrain, with mountains sandwiched by water, and many beaches and rapids; from here up there is a platform plain - Wuxuan Plain, with open terrain and gentle rivers. The scenery in the upper section of the canyon is beautiful and beautiful, with lush green mountains and green bamboos, and Zhuang Village cottages scattered in the mountains and forests. There are three village committees along both sides of the river. They are named Shangxiajiang Village, Zhongxiajiang Village and Xiaxiajiang Village because of the gorges. The villagers personally call them "Three Gorges Village". Here hundreds of boats compete on the river, bamboo rafts beat the waves, and the scenery is charming. The lower section of the canyon is full of strange peaks, steep cliffs, dangerous rocks, and tributaries. In the summer, the waves roll, the torrents hit the waves, and the waves sound like thunder; in the autumn, the blue waves ripple, and the mountains and rivers shine, which is extremely spectacular. Xu Xiake, a famous geographer and traveler in the Ming Dynasty, once sailed to Dadeng Gorge in the 10th year of Chongzhen (January 1637). He wrote in his travel notes: Hengshiji (i.e. Hongshitan) "There are stones from the foothills of the right mountain in the Hengtu River. , the rapids surged backwards, and became full of caves." "The mountains on both sides are towering, crowning all the peaks, and sometimes there are overhanging peaks." This describes the majestic scene of Dadeng Gorge.
