The marriage of Ionina Lezdotti

According to the British "Daily Telegraph" report on June 28, 2012, Iceland promulgated relevant laws on the 27th to officially recognize gay marriage as legal. On the same day, Iceland's female Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir married her same-sex partner who had been in love for many years and became a legal couple.

The Icelandic Parliament unanimously passed a bill allowing same-sex marriage on June 12, 2012, and it officially came into effect on June 27. On the same day, 68-year-old Sigurdardottir and 56-year-old Leosdóttir became the first gay couple to get married in Iceland after the law came into effect.

Previously, homosexuals in Iceland enjoyed many of the same legal rights as heterosexual couples, but the law did not allow same-sex couples to marry, and their relationship was only called a civil partnership.
