Information about Ruishi Building

Ruishilou is located in Jinjiang Village, Xiangang Town, Kaiping City. Built in 1923, the project lasted for 3 years and was completed in 1925 with a history of 72 years. Huang Bixiu, founder of Ruishi Building, was named Ruishi. He and his sons Huang Changlan (the eldest son) and Huang (the second son) successfully run pharmacies and money houses in Hong Kong. At the beginning of the 20th century, public security was not good, thieves were rampant and gangs were rampant. At that time, 59-year-old Huang Bixiu lived in his hometown with his parents and wife. For the safety of his family, he spared no expense to invest more than HK$ 30,000 in 10 (192 1) to build a home tower, which was completed in 12 (1923) and lasted for three years. After the building was completed, he named it Swiss Building after himself. Because of his old age with the famous calligrapher in Guangdong and the master of Tiechan, who presided over Liu Rong Temple in Guangzhou, Tiechan wrote three characters of Ruishilou for him. The calligraphy of Hunxiong, the master of Tiechan, has improved the popularity and cultural taste of the building. In order to prevent bandits, the building is equipped with guns, bronze bells and searchlights. In the process of building Ruishi Building, Huang Bixiu and his son clashed many times because of their different ideas. At that time, the towers around Jinjiang Lane were all 4 to 6 stories high. Huang Bixiu's father, Huang Yigui, found that when his watchtower was built on the sixth floor, there was no sign of capping. The simple old man doesn't want to be too ostentatious, so let Huang Bixiu cap it. Huang Bixiu didn't listen to his father's advice, and the watchtower continued to run upward. He told his father that the design of this watchtower is 9 floors, and he wants to build the tallest and most spectacular watchtower in the whole village, township and county, so that people can see the watchtower of the Huang family from a distance, which is unparalleled. Finally, a nine-story watchtower stood proudly in Kaiping countryside more than 80 years ago, and it is still amazing today.
