Why did Qiandao Lake sink into the ancient city?

Qiandao Lake flooded the ancient city in order to build Xin 'an Hydropower Station.

From 65438 to 0959, Xin 'anjiang Hydropower Station, the first large-scale hydropower station with self-designed and self-made equipment in China, was built. Chun 'an and Sui 'an, two thousand-year-old ancient cities, together with 49 towns and villages, sank to the bottom of the water. Accompanied by it, there are not only ten thousand mu of fertile land and thousands of houses, but also most sites of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and ancient archways.

Qiandao Lake is an artificial lake. The ancient city at the bottom of the lake has a history of thousands of years. One is called he cheng, and the other is called Lion City. Compared with he cheng, the Lion City is well preserved.

Qiandao Lake lies between 2911'-30 02' north latitude and118 34'-1915' east longitude. It is located in Chun 'an County, bordering on western Zhejiang and southern Anhui Province.

The dam of Qiandao Lake Reservoir is105m high and 462m long. The length of the reservoir is about 150km, and the widest part exceeds 10km. The deepest reaches 100 meters, with an average water depth of 30.44 meters.

The area under normal water level is about 580 square kilometers, and the storage capacity can reach 178 billion cubic meters. At the highest water level, there are 1078 land bridge islands larger than 0.25 square kilometers, mainly islands smaller than 2 square kilometers, with an island area of ***409 square kilometers.
