From15th century to modern times, most of Latin America has been a colony of Spain and Portugal.

1493 In May, under the arbitration of Pope Alexander VI, Spain and Portugal divided the colonial boundary, which was called "papal meridian" in history. In fact, it is precisely because these two Iberian countries speak Latin that their colonies are called "Latin America".
