JD (Juris Doctor) can be literally understood as a doctor of law, but if you carefully read the websites of various schools, it is not difficult to find that this course is acceptable to students with legal background. JD is recognized by many countries, including China, and the highest degree is Master.

The difference with LLM

At least a bachelor's degree is also required. JD does not need a legal background, LLM must have a legal background.

JD is for all students, LLM is generally only for foreign students.

JD can take the bar exam after graduation, but LLM can't.

JD's curriculum is generally three years, LLM is one year.

The JD course of the University of Melbourne requires students to provide the results of the last exam, and LLM does not need to take the last exam.
