The difference between China people and overseas Chinese
China people refer to people of China origin, including Chinese mainland, Hongkong, Macau, Taiwan Province Province, Southeast Asia and all people of China origin who are widely distributed in five continents, but do not necessarily have China nationality. Overseas Chinese refer to China people who have China nationality and have long lived outside Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Chinese generally refers to the descendants of Chinese with China descent who have joined the nationality of the host country, and generally refers to the Chinese after a generation.
The so-called overseas Chinese generally refer to China people who have settled abroad for a long time and have foreign green cards but still retain their China nationality. In essence, overseas Chinese have China nationality but live abroad for a long time; Chinese refers to China people who already have foreign nationality, such as Chinese Americans and Japanese Chinese. Because China stipulates that dual citizenship is not allowed, China people no longer have China citizenship as foreigners.
Definition of overseas Chinese
Overseas Chinese refer to China citizens who are designated to live abroad. Among them, "settlement" means that China citizens have obtained long-term or permanent residency in other countries and have lived in other countries for two consecutive years, and the cumulative residence time within two years is not less than 18 months. As long as China citizens have obtained the legal residence qualification in other countries for more than five consecutive years (including five years), even if they have not obtained the long-term or permanent residence qualification in other countries, they will be regarded as overseas Chinese if they have stayed in other countries for not less than 30 months within five years.
It should be noted that China people who study abroad, go abroad for business or work abroad are not regarded as overseas Chinese. Therefore, it should be remembered that overseas Chinese still have China nationality, but they just live overseas in China all the year round.
