Zhu Yuanzhang (1328 - June 24, 1398), Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, had the courtesy name Guorui. His original name was Chongba, and later he was named Xingzong. Han nationality, native of Zhongli, Haozhou, and the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty.

Zhu Yuanzhang was poor when he was young and used to herd cattle for the landlord. In 1344 (the fourth year of the Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty), he entered Huangjue Temple. At the age of 25, he joined the Red Scarf Army led by Guo Zixing to resist the Yuan Dynasty. In 1356 (the 16th year of the Zhizheng reign), he was honored as Wu Guogong by his generals. In the same year, Jiqing Road was captured and renamed Yingtianfu. In 1368 (the twenty-eighth year of Zhengzheng), after Zhu Yuanzhang defeated various peasant uprising armies, he proclaimed himself emperor in Yingtian Mansion. His country was named Daming and his reign was named Hongwu. Later, he ended the Mongol and Yuan rule in the Central Plains, pacified Sichuan, Guangxi, Gansu, Yunnan and other places, and finally unified China.

During his reign, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered farmers to return to farming and rewarded land reclamation; he launched a large-scale resettlement and military settlement; organized farmers from all over the country to build water conservancy projects; he vigorously promoted the planting of mulberry, hemp, cotton and other cash crops and fruit crops. They also enriched the people and suppressed the powerful; ordered the liberation of slaves; reduced tax burdens, severely punished corrupt officials; sent people to measure land across the country, conduct household registration checks, etc. After the efforts of the Hongwu period, social production gradually recovered and developed, which is known as the Hongwu rule in history. In 1380 (the 13th year of Hongwu), Zhu Yuanzhang deposed the prime minister and established three departments to divide power: the Department of Proclaiming Political Envoys, the Department of Promoting Punishments and Envoys, and the Department of Commanding and Envoys, further strengthening the centralization of power.

In 1398 (the thirty-first year of Hongwu), Zhu Yuanzhang died of illness in Yingtian at the age of 71. His temple name was Taizu, and his posthumous name was Kaitianxingdaozhaoji. Emperor Gao. Buried in Xiaoling Mausoleum of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing.
