What is the Washington Agreement? What are the benefits for domestic engineering students?

The "Washington Accord" was initiated and signed in 1989 by private engineering professional groups from six countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The agreement mainly focuses on the mutual recognition of international undergraduate engineering qualifications (generally four years), confirms that the engineering qualifications certified by the contracting members are basically the same, and recommends that personnel who graduate from courses certified by any contracting member should be recognized by other contracting countries ( region) are deemed to have obtained academic qualifications for entry-level engineering work. In 2013, my country joined the "Washington Agreement" as a preliminary member, and in early 2016, it accepted the inspection for full membership. Yanshan University and Beijing Jiaotong University represented the country and became the observing units for the inspection organized by the "Washington Agreement". On June 2, 2016, China became a formal member of the Washington Agreement, an international mutual recognition agreement for undergraduate engineering degrees.

The significance of this agreement is:

1. Chinese engineering undergraduate graduates will directly obtain professional certification, increasing the chance of applying for engineering research courses in the countries that sign the agreement.

2. The skills export of Chinese professional engineers will be further recognized and guaranteed, and they will have the opportunity to participate in the core parts of major engineering and technology projects in countries that sign the agreement.

3. Greatly increase the success rate of offshore application for skilled immigrants for applicants with relevant academic qualifications and many years of work experience! Some older students do not need to study abroad first.

To summarize, students who obtain an undergraduate engineering degree from a signatory country have course certifications that can be recognized by all signatory countries and are considered academically qualified for entry-level engineering jobs.
