Introduction to Yunya Temple

Go right from the end of Tuanjie Road in Shuifu County, Yunnan Province, and just turn through an alley to reach Yunya Temple. Historically, Yunya Temple once had names such as Temple Buddhist Temple, Sanshengtang, Baoen Temple, and Three Churches. The current name of Yunya Temple was changed in 1993 when the temple was restored and Buddhist services resumed. The local people are still used to calling it the Three Churches. The date when Yunya Temple was first built has not been verified. According to legend, when Huguang occupied Sichuan in the early Qing Dynasty, the Bazi where Shuifu County is now located was a forest with no human habitation. When the immigrants were reclaiming land, they suddenly discovered an ancient temple in the forest that blocked the sky. The Bodhisattva was still there, the utensils were still there, and the remains of two deceased masters were lying on the two beds. The mosquito nets seemed to be intact. When I touched it with my hand, it turned into ashes. If this is used as a basis, the temple should have been built several years before the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In late spring, the flowers are flying and the trees are green. We came to Yunya Temple. But we saw an ancient building in the middle of the houses, with red walls and yellow tiles, quiet and solemn. This is the Yunya Temple we want to visit. There is a small dry ditch in front of the temple. Next to the ditch is a lush bamboo forest, facing the mountain gate of the temple. On both sides of the mountain gate are a pair of stone lions of different shapes. On the lintel of the mountain gate are three gold-plated characters "Yunya Temple". On both sides of the mountain gate are the couplets "Jinshashui beats Yunya Temple, agate mountain crosses the north gate", both of which were written by the late Shuifu calligrapher Mr. Li Jun.
