Bangkok University was founded on December 25, 1962 by Mr. Surat and Mrs. Pongtip Osathanugrah. Mr. Surat Osathanugrah is one of Thailand's most successful businessmen. He has served as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Commerce, and former People's Representative.
The school was originally the Polytechnic of Thailand until it was restructured into Bangkok College in 1965, becoming the first private college in Thailand. On October 25, 1984, the University Department officially recognized the school's upgrade to a university, thus establishing Bangkok University and opening the International College.
Bangkok University is a private, non-profit educational organization sponsored by the Bangkok University Foundation. The inspiration for the establishment of this university came from the founder's desire to establish a third-largest educational institution to train students in various academic and experimental abilities.
Bangkok University offers courses taught in Thai and English. Bachelor's degrees taught in Thai include: Business, Accounting, Economics, Communication Arts, Humanities, Law, Computer Science, Literature and Applied Literature, and Engineering.
In terms of international courses, all courses are taught in English. International College offers a variety of courses in the fields of business, communication arts, accounting and humanities. These courses are highly rated for students who want to improve their English skills and prepare themselves for international trade in the future.
In 1985, Bangkok University Graduate School began to offer MBA degrees. The language of instruction is entirely English. This course is fully recognized by the Ministry of National Universities. In 1989, a second master's degree program began, teaching communication arts. This course is also entirely taught in English and is widely welcomed by those who want to develop in the communication field. This result also influenced other Thais who did not use English on a daily basis, so in 1991, communication arts courses taught in Thai began.
The Alumni Alliance was formally established on August 26, 1974. The main purpose of establishing this association is to enable former students to maintain a close relationship with the university. There are many outstanding alumni who have become business executives, heads of consulting firms, journalists, writers and social workers. All have made considerable contributions to society.
