How to calculate the continuous residence time required for immigration and naturalization in the United States?

In most cases, naturalization applicants must have legal permanent resident status for five years. This doesn't mean that you can't leave the United States during these five years. If you leave for more than six months at a time but less than 1 year, you need to provide records of your rent payment, loan payment and salary in the United States during the period of naturalization to prove that you have been in contact with the United States. However, if you leave for more than 1 year at a time, your continuous residence will be interrupted and the time you lived before leaving the United States will no longer be counted. You need to recalculate your residence time from the date of returning to the United States.
