Controversy over the Dream Act

Supporters of the bill believe that the "Dream Act" can enable some ambitious and successful immigrants to work in professional fields. Otherwise, the employment of many young immigrants will be restricted, and eventually they will have to work for blacks like their parents.

The Institute of Immigration Policy, an American research institution, said that if the Dream Act is passed, about 825,000 immigrants will benefit from it.

Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, planned to use this bill as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act on September 20 13, but the bill failed to pass in the Senate due to opposition from many Republicans. Despite this, Durbin still does not give up, and intends to put forward the "Dream Act" as an independent bill this year and next.

Steven A. Camarota, research director of the Center for Immigration Studies in the United States, believes that the Dream Act may provide more channels for immigration identity fraud, encourage more foreigners to immigrate to the United States, and lead illegal immigrants to compete with legal residents for limited educational resources.
