History of Northeast Immigrants

The vast majority of the population in Northeast China are immigrants, and the number of modern immigrants is as high as 20 million, mainly from North China, of which Shandong has the largest number of immigrants, followed by Hebei, and the two provinces account for more than 90% of the total number of immigrants. Exploring its motivation, on the one hand, is the thrust from the original place of residence, on the other hand, it is the result of the joint efforts of two forces. Due to the dense population, natural disasters in northern China are frequent and severe. In order to survive, the victims in North China were forced to cross the ocean and move to the northeast, which is geographically adjacent, sparsely populated and rich in resources. Especially at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the victims of North China flocked to the Northeast in droves, forming an unprecedented immigration tide.
