Can anyone introduce the group The Cottars?
The Cottars
Members: Ciaran & Fiona MacGillivray (13 & 12), Roseanne & Jimmy MacKenzie (14 & 11). Two siblings from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
At a grand event in Cape Breton, the two siblings became acquainted as duet singers and developed a feeling of regret for meeting each other. They bring brilliant talents to the mix, and both parties benefit from a mutual understanding.
The name of the group comes from the inspiration Fiona MacGillivray got from school when she was a student. In the Clearances Highlands in the 18th and 19th centuries, Scottish immigrants were exiled overseas, and some of them fled to Nova Scotia & Cape Breton Island. Perhaps because of the simple houses and huts of these "newcomers", the locals in Nova Scotia call them "cots".
Children in their teenage years mostly focus on their summer vacation, but The Cottars know exactly what they want to do - tour the country and perform Celtic music with their own style. Trips to Nova Scotia and New England have been arranged, and the date for a special interview with CBC-TV "Meet the Cottars" has been finalized. It's going to be a very busy summer with all these plans, but the kids will enjoy it.
What’s more, Celtic singer John McDermott is also a loyal fan. Along with John McDermott, they have performed in New England and appeared on the PBC special "A Time to Remember". John McDermott also served as executive producer of The Cottars' debut film "Made In Cape Breton."
In the 1970s and 1980s, Cape Breton's group The Rakin once showed the spectacular scene of "Cape Breton 'singing and dancing'" (the emergence of The Cottars recreated this myth).
