The US Immigration Enforcement Bureau arrested illegal immigrants in Los Angeles, arresting 100 people with a target of 400 people.
Officials of the Federal Immigration Enforcement Bureau said on Wednesday (14) that they had arrested several people who violated the immigration law, which was part of a continuous law enforcement operation in Los Angeles since Sunday (1 1).
According to the news network of the San Gabriel Valley Forum, officials of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that they were worried about "individuals who pose a threat to national security, public security and border security".
In a statement, ICE officials said: "This means that, ideally, we will cooperate with local police and county prisons to identify individuals who pose a threat to public safety from these institutions, and these individuals also exist among illegal immigrants and deportees."
However, ICE officials added that in a "uncooperative jurisdiction" like Los Angeles, they were forced to "concentrate more resources on mass arrests in the community".
ICE officials also said that they no longer follow the priority arrest standard, so "anyone who violates immigration laws may be arrested, detained and eventually deported from the United States."
According to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday (13), federal officials have arrested more than 100 people since Sunday, a move that spans seven counties in southern California. Immigration officials are searching for as many as 400 immigrants who may face deportation. Immigration officials told the Wall Street Journal that most of these people have criminal records.
ICE Los Angeles Regional Action Team includes Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo in the entire South Canada law enforcement action area.
