On Gulangyu Island, about 70% of the buildings were built from the early 20th century to the 1930s. After the Opium War, Xiamen, as the first port city in China, began its urban development for nearly 200 years. After the Japanese occupation period, the early days of 1949, the renovation of private houses, the Cultural Revolution, the reform and opening up, the reorganization of state-owned assets, and the explosive development of real estate in the past 20 years, this old city with arcades has been preserved, and its texture has remained basically unchanged. Its function has gradually changed from the commercial, political and cultural center in the past to the contemporary comprehensive use and tourist area.

Xiamen is more tolerant and rich in local culture than Zhang Quan. Xiamen is an immigrant city. It knows how to accept and will not be exclusive. Historically, the subjects who created and enjoyed superior conditions here were not locals, but mostly westerners and overseas Chinese. Although Xiamen has ushered in various forces in its ups and downs, there is no collision between them, and this young city has not been able to integrate, thus developing a life culture.

A relatively stable and prosperous life seems to have found the Garden of Eden, and contentment is always happy; In a small circle, in a semi-acquaintance society, things are relatively peaceful and gentle, making money harmoniously; The relative edge of geographical location and mild natural conditions make people feel gentler, and they don't need or want to know the big and bad outside the island, leaving room for polishing the details of life, leaving a blank.
