The San Dìu people (Vietnamese: Sán Dìu) call themselves San Yao and are one of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. The population is 126,237 (statistics in 1999). Mainly distributed in the mountainous areas of Tai Nguyen, Vinh Phu, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang and other provinces in northern Vietnam. They were immigrants from the ancient Han Dynasty. The mountain is made up of villages and villages, and the Chinese, Jing, Dai and Nong people live next to each other.
The Shanyu people gradually moved to Vietnam from Guangdong, China, in the late Ming Dynasty. They speak the vernacular and write Chinese characters. But they are not recognized as Chinese. The people of Shanyou call themselves Shanyao people. The pronunciation of the Yao character in Cantonese is "you". The Vietnamese is directly transliterated from Cantonese and becomes Shanyou. The neighboring ethnic groups call Shanyou people Tuzhai, which means Villagers living in earthen houses.
The Sanyu people speak a dialect of the Cantonese dialect of Chinese and use Chinese characters, but now Vietnamese is increasingly becoming their daily language, and they also learn and use Vietnamese.
