In ancient China, barbarians in the southeast were generally called "Yue" and barbarians in the north were called "Hu". As early as the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, there was an ancient people named Yue who lived in the southeast and south of today's China. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the ethnic groups in southern China were generally referred to as "Yue" in relevant historical books.
According to the current archaeological evidence, the Hemudu cultural site in Zhejiang province, which is 7000 years ago, is probably a culture created by the ancient Vietnamese. Archaeologists now generally believe that the cultural remains widely distributed in the south of China, mainly characterized by pottery figurines, may also have been created by the Guyue people. From the late Neolithic period more than 4,000 years ago, it continued to the Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han dynasties, and was distributed in the southeast and Lingnan areas of China in space.
Although no nation or ethnic group is named after Baiyue today, Baiyue culture has actually left various traces in the cultures (languages and customs) of many different nationalities in various ways.
