How do new immigrants from Australia attend English courses for free?

The 5 10 hour free English course project named "Adult Immigrant English Project (AMEP)" provided by the government and funded by the Australian Department of Education and Training aims to help new immigrants whose mother tongue is not English integrate into the local society as soon as possible.

AMEP program is open to all eligible immigrants, refugees and some temporary visa holders, providing them with English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, such as daily communication, job hunting, shopping, and even Australian local customs and laws.

AMEP is only for immigrants with very weak English foundation. To meet the registration requirements of AMEP, the English level of immigrants must be lower than the daily basic English level (functional English).

Daily basic English level refers to the ability to carry out basic social and daily activities, have a certain ability to understand daily vocabulary, and be able to write letters or read simple English manuals in English normally. Although it is not completely equivalent to IELTS score, it is roughly equivalent to IELTS 4, that is to say, if the English level is roughly above 4, you can not take this course.

Both permanent immigrants and temporary residents can sign up.

Teaching methods:

AMEP has three courses: classroom learning, distance learning, on-site tutoring and online self-study unit.

Classroom learning:

You can go to the nearest college to study English full-time or part-time during the day or night. AMEP (Adult Immigrant English Course) is held every Monday to Saturday to improve oral English, writing level, language and communication skills.

Distance learning:

If you want to learn English, but you can't come to class, you can choose to study at home through distance learning. Teacher-assisted distance learning course is a personalized learning course, including distance teaching by Skype or telephone, and reading, writing and oral practice by using online materials or printed materials and CDs.

On-site consultation:

If you want to learn English face to face, but you can't insist on going to school, the tutor program will suit you. A well-trained counselor will come to your home every week and spend an hour or two helping you with your English. Counselors will help you build confidence in speaking English and strengthen the skills you need to settle in Australia.

Online self-study:

Learners can use online learning packages for online independent learning. The online learning module is a supplement to the AMEP course, so it will not take up 5 10 hours of learning time.

When do I need to register:

Be sure to register for AMEP courses within 6 months after your arrival in Australia. (Only for people with poor English ability)

Those who receive Australian government income subsidies within 3 months after arriving in Australia.

And you need to start learning English in 12 months and finish it in 5 years.
