What are the local languages in Fujian?

According to its linguistic features, Min dialect can be roughly divided into five dialects: Minnan dialect, Mindong dialect, Minbei dialect, Minzhong dialect and Puxian dialect.

Min Nan dialect

It is the most populous and widely used dialect in Fujian. Including 24 counties and cities in Fujian Province and most areas of Taiwan Province Province with Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou as the centers. Fujian dialect, which is popular outside Fujian province, basically belongs to Minnan dialect. Minnan dialect is represented by Xiamen dialect, while Chaozhou dialect and Wenchang dialect also have great influence in eastern Guangdong and Hainan Island respectively.

Mindong dialect

Popular in the eastern part of Fujian Province, including the lower reaches of Minjiang River with Fuzhou as the center and parts of Ningde with Fu 'an as the center, Mazu Islands in Taiwan Province Province, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia in Southeast Asia. Madong (Shiwu province in Shacheng Yuezhou is called New Fuzhou, which speaks Mindong dialect) and Shizhaoyuan in Xima (called Little Fuzhou), and some Mindong immigrants speak Mindong dialect in Singapore. In recent years, the number of immigrants from eastern Fujian who use Fuzhou dialect in the United States and North America has also increased. Usually Fujian dialect in North America refers to Fuzhou dialect. The total number of users is estimated to exceed10 million. In Japan and parts of Europe, Mindong is the main Min language. People usually think that Fuzhou dialect is the representative language of Mindong dialect.

Northern Fujian dialect

Jian 'ou, Jianyang, Nanping (rural area), Chong 'an, Songxi, Zhenghe and Pucheng (southern area), which are popular in northern Fujian, are represented by Jian 'ou dialect.

Minzhong dialect

Popular in Yong 'an, Sanming and Shaxian in central Fujian, represented by Yong 'an dialect.

Puxian dialect

Putian and Xianyou, which pass through the eastern coast of Fujian, are represented by Putian dialect.
