Does the US military allow stowaways to join the army?

It is impossible to recruit stowaways to join the US military. However, it is an old routine for the US military to recruit soldiers on the grounds of giving illegal immigrants with temporary residence rights legal status (green card or nationality). According to The New York Times's Sing Tao Daily in February, 2009, issue 16, the US military is about to try out new recruitment measures, allowing foreign skilled immigrants with temporary visas to join the army to solve the problem of insufficient troops. In order to increase the attractiveness of the new measures, the US Department of Defense stipulates that eligible foreigners can obtain citizenship at the earliest after joining the army for six months. However, when the military announced the idea of expanding the scope of conscription to temporary immigrants last year, it caused great controversy. Although the American Legion of the Veterans Association has no objection, it emphasizes that the army needs to ensure that the loyalty of immigrant officers and soldiers to the United States is higher than that of their countries of origin.
