The history of China's participation in the French "Foreign Legion" cannot be verified. At present, it is generally believed that since 1972, a Hong Kong Chinese was selected as a French "foreign legion", there has been a "foreign legion fever" in French Chinese society.

According to statistics, there are still more than 200 China people serving in the Legion, and there are about 560 China veterans in the French foreign legion. As nearly half of the overseas Chinese living in China are originally from Wenzhou, Zhejiang, the active or retired French soldiers of the French Foreign Legion mainly come from Wenzhou.

The foreign legion is very strict about the selection of soldiers. Although tens of thousands of people from all over the world apply to join the legion every year, after strict selection and examination, the elimination rate is as high as 95%, and only a few people can wear the white beret of the legion.

The only regret of China soldiers is that although the French "foreign legion" is called "foreign", most of the upper and middle-level officers are French who graduated from their own military schools. Most Chinese who join the French Foreign Legion aim to better integrate into French society, so when the first conscription contract expires in five years, they will choose to leave the Legion. However, Zhang Mingjun, who currently works as a recruiting instructor at the Paris Nolan recruiting station, is an exception. He regards being a soldier as a lifelong career.

Zhang Mingjun/Kloc-0 was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1979, and/Kloc-0 immigrated to France in 1992 to reunite with his parents. When he was studying in a local middle school, he met a veteran of a foreign legion, so he came up with the idea of joining the legion.

He stayed there for four and a half years. In the meantime, Zhang Mingjun came to the former Yugoslavia to carry out demining tasks during the 1999 Kosovo War and stayed there for four months.

Looking back on his military career, Zhang Mingjun thinks that the biggest obstacle for China soldiers in the process of joining the army is the language barrier, and the most unbearable thing is that they often can't eat. As a recruit instructor, he often feels heartfelt pride when watching more and more China soldiers successfully enter foreign legions.

Yu Sanming: The US military is also afraid of three points.

The experience of Yu Sanming, the retired president of the China Association of Comrades from the French Foreign Corps, is undoubtedly legendary. As the first China soldier to drive a tank in the French foreign legion, his deeds encouraged many young people in China to strive for self-improvement in the face of tough environment.

Yu Sanming was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, and 1965 was born in Fujian. He came to live in France from Holland 1985.

1986 He heard that there is a magical army in France called the Foreign Legion, so he took the initiative to sign up. Because of his strong physique, he was successfully admitted and soon participated in a four-month selection training. Although he doesn't know French, with the unique hard-working spirit of China people, he has not only withstood cruel and even inhuman training, but also been among the best in military, physical fitness and gun performance. According to the relevant regulations of the foreign legion, Yu Sanming was free to choose arms, and he did not hesitate to choose his long-cherished tank soldier. His unit is the famous French first foreign armored regiment, which belongs to the French sixth mechanized unit in terms of organization.

Yu Sanming was first stationed in Orange, southern France, and received stricter military training during his stay. In the meantime, his troops participated in large-scale multinational joint military exercises for many times, and the military exercise he participated in for the first time in the waters near Sicily, Italy, left him the deepest impression and gave him a deeper understanding of the French "foreign legion".

Yu Sanming recalled that the main partner of the French army in the exercise was not only the Italian army, but also a super aircraft carrier fleet of the United States. When he first came out of the cabin of a warship and saw the huge US aircraft carrier battle group, the first thought in his heart was: "Is World War III really going to start?"

Yu Sanming later admitted that he was really carried away by the momentum of the US military at that time and thought that members of the US Marine Corps must be arrogant. In fact, in front of the French "foreign legion" officers and men, the members of the US Marine Corps were not arrogant, but respectfully met them and even gave in by three points. The veteran of the French Foreign Legion proudly told Yu Sanming that in fact, the US Marine Corps was "also afraid of the French Foreign Legion" because the latter was a more "magical" force than them.

Yu Sanming was then sent to Central Africa, Djibouti, Ethiopia and other countries, and passed the war several times. Because of his excellent professional ability, Yu Sanming realized the transformation from "student to teacher" and worked as a tank coach for a while before retiring.

Chen Jian: Re-create brilliance after retirement.

Soldiers of China Foreign Legion are dignified and powerful when they are soldiers. How do they make a living after leaving the army? Like most overseas Chinese living in France, most of them are engaged in catering or catering-related industries, and many of them have become Chinese restaurant owners. Chen Jian, executive vice president of the French "foreign corps" old comrades association, is a typical representative.

Chen Jianzu was born in Yueqing, Zhejiang, and served in China Naval Air Force. 1990, Chen Jian came to Paris because he defected to his brother who had settled in France. By chance, he found a poster introducing the French "foreign legion" in the subway. Out of his love for the army and in order to better integrate into French society, he resolutely decided to join the "foreign legion." Thanks to his previous military experience, Chen Jian finally put on the white beret of "Foreign Legion" at 199 1.

As a member of the French "Foreign Legion", Chen Jian was sent to the former Yugoslavia to carry out UN peacekeeping missions twice in 1993 and 1995. Because he was a tank soldier in the army, Chen Jian's first job after his demobilization in 1996 was as a driver in a China garment factory. Soon, he opened a clothing processing factory himself. Whenever recalling this choice, Chen Jian always points out proudly that as a veteran, he has the right to enjoy the high unemployment fee provided by the French Ministry of Defence for one year, but he is more willing to support himself through hard work to show that China people don't want to "steal the oil from the French government".

The business of the garment processing factory was not successful, and Chen Jian lost all his savings during his service as a soldier. From 65438 to 0997, he and his wife borrowed more than 200,000 francs and founded a Chinese restaurant named "Xinya Restaurant", which launched another long and arduous "survival war" in a new field.
