Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was established in 1958, covering an area of 66,400 square kilometers, of which the Hui population accounts for 36%, making it the largest Hui community in China.

Ningxia is one of the birthplaces of ancient civilization in China. The Shuidonggou Site in lingwu city shows that as early as 30,000 years ago in the Paleolithic Age, people lived and multiplied here.
