Born in Birmingham, England, Lester is a descendant of Jamaican immigrants. His mother Monica is a medical secretary and his father Reginald is the manager of a cleaning company. As a child, he was a tenor in the choir of St. Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham. Later, he began to perform in Birmingham Youth Theatre, studied at Joseph Chamberlain VI College in Joseph Chamberlain, and was admitted to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Lester married actress Lolita chakra Batty (English: Lolita Chakrabarti). They live in southeast London and have two daughters: both of them were born in Lambeth, London. Among them, Anabel Harvey chakra Bhatti was born in 200 1, and Jasmine Harvey chakra Bhatti was born in 2004.

Lester is famous in Britain for playing Michael Stone (Michael "Mickey Briks" Si Tong English) in the BBC series Tiger. The role left in Part 4, but returned in Parts 5 and 6. In the United States, he played campaign director Henry Burton in the film "Primary Colors" directed by mike nichols in 1998. His role is thought to allude to George stephanopoulos palos. This role earned him a nomination for the Best Newcomer Award from the Chicago Film Critics Association.

In 2000, Lester starred in Kenneth Bleiner's film Empty Love, which was adapted from Shakespeare's play and set in the 1930s. The film was not well received, but Lester was nominated for an british independent film awards for his performance.

He starred in the stage musical Company, for which he won a Laurence laurence olivier awards, played a leading role in Hamlet (won the Carlton TV Award), and played Rossetti in 199 1 version of Happy, and won the overtime award. In 2003, Leicester staged Shakespeare's Henry V at the Royal National Theatre.

At the end of 2005, Lester made a guest appearance in the popular police drama Ghost Squad of Channel 4. He also starred in Spider-Man 3 in 2007, but his scene was finally abridged.

Also in 2007, Lester filmed The Imperial People for Channel 4, a documentary about his grandfather Kenneth Nathaniel Lester's arrival in Britain. When his grandfather was filming in Jamaica, he was unwell and could not be interviewed. Kenneth died shortly after the documentary was filmed and could not see the film released.

In 2008, Lester starred in the BBC TV series Bonekickers, which tells the story of a team of archaeologists. In 2009, he played Mickey Si Tong again in The Snitch. He also played the role of Milo in the TV series The Legend of Merlin.
