What does Ordos mean?

"Ordos" means "official account" in Mongolian. According to historical records, Ordos evolved from the plural of Mongolian Han Erduo (meaning official account).

As early as Genghis Khan, there were four Handels. After the death of Genghis Khan, the guards guarding Khan's official account guarded Genghis Khan's mausoleum full-time. By the14th century, the guards guarding Genghis Khan's mausoleum renamed "Aimak" as Ordos, hence the name Ordos.

Ordos region has had many different names in history. Ordos is located on the south bank of the Yellow River, so people call it "Henan Land". Ordos area is also called "Hetao" because it is surrounded by water on the west, north and east, and connected with the ancient Great Wall in the south, forming a huge coverage. Ordos and Shanxi face each other across the river, one in Hexi and the other in Hedong, so it is also called "Hexi"; Ordos used to be a place where nomadic people lived in the north. Before and after, there were nomadic tribes such as Earthwork, Ghost Party, Xun Yu, Yiqu, Loufan and so on, so it was called "Hu". After Qin Shihuang unified China, the people who sent troops to attack Hu occupied the Ordos area, immigrated from the mainland and cultivated the land, which made Ordos rich quickly, comparable to Qin Zhongyuan. Therefore, it has the reputation of "New Qin Zhong"; After the death of Genghis Khan, the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty stipulated a detailed "Eight White Rooms" for offering sacrifices to Genghis Khan, and put the articles used by Genghis Khan in the Eight White Rooms for offering sacrifices. A group of special grave keepers gradually formed a new Mongolian tribe-Ordos tribe. /kloc-In the middle of the 5th century, the Ordos tribe entered the Ordos region with Genghis Khan's Babaifang. In the following hundreds of years, the Mongols in Ordos paid homage to the mausoleum of Genghis Khan on time and never left here. Over time, this area is called Ordos; Ordos is transliteration in Mongolian and means "many palaces" in Chinese. /kloc-In the middle of the 0/7th century, the Qing Dynasty strengthened its rule over Mongolian ministries and implemented the "Mongolian flag system", which divided Ordos into six flags, namely, the front, middle and rear flags of the left wing, and the front, middle and rear flags of the right wing. The six flags were called the Yikezhaomeng, and the "Yikezhaomeng" was in Mongolian. Since then, Zhao Meng's name has been used to this day. In February of 200 1 year, it withdrew from the alliance and established Ordos city.

A series of nicknames of Ordos have rich historical connotations, and their meanings are different in different historical periods. New China's Yike Zhaomeng is fundamentally different. The Ordos region in history is larger than today's Ordos region, including not only the whole territory of Yikezhao League today, but also the Hetao of Bayannaoer League and parts of Ningxia and northern Shaanxi.
