What is the mystery of Maca ancestors?

There are many ethnic groups in the world, many of which are well known, and some ethnic groups are far away from the world because of their small numbers, so people know very little. The Marca people are a branch of American Indians. They have lived in the village of Ogit in the northwest corner of Washington State for generations. Before the arrival of immigrants from Europe and the eastern United States, the Maca people had lived here for several generations. The location of Maka village is far above sea level, overlooking the vast and charming beaches. There is a row of rocks on the sea about 4.5 kilometers from the coast, like a row of fences, resisting the impact of Pacific waves.

In 1930s, Macalianzhu village moved to a village 20 kilometers away. Although the Maka people left their hometown, they never forgot the history of their ancestors, especially the legend about the catastrophe: many years ago, the sky suddenly fell, a huge mud mountain fell from the ground, the whole village was swallowed up at once, and the village of Ogit was in ruins.

People may think that this is just a legend, but Professor Dougherty, an anthropologist at Washington State University, thinks it is true to some extent. 1One winter day in 970, a storm in the Pacific Ocean set off a rare wave, and the surging waves rushed to the wide beach in an avalanche. The coast where the former site of Ogit village was located could not withstand the impact of waves, and some soil collapsed. Soon after, someone found a paddle for paddling on the beach. The paddle was well preserved, but the owner threw it away for no reason. After hearing the news, Professor Dougherty, with professional sensitivity, suspected that this was the place where the mud collapse happened in the legend of Maca people, and that wooden paddle might have been used by Maca people when they rowed boats out to sea for fishing 500 years ago.

Soon, several hooks, a harpoon, a broken carving box and a straw hat were found near the place where the wooden paddle was found. Due to the thick mud layer isolated from the outside air, they have not been damaged for hundreds of years. What is even more surprising is that after the mud on the shore collapsed, a small wooden wall of the Maka house was exposed. In order not to damage the fragile hut and its contents, Doherty and his assistant carefully washed away tons of soil with water instead of digging with earth-turning tools. Slowly, the whole house was exposed. Although the washing process is slow, the effect is good. This house is quite big, about 2 1 m long and 14 m wide. It is divided into several units, and each unit has a stove and a sleeping kang. It seems to be shared by several families. There is a broken white blanket in the supplies in the room, and the blue and black patterns on it are still clearly visible.

Maca people's daily necessities are all made of wood, and even cooking containers are made of wood. When cooking, they first heat the stones and then throw them into a wooden container filled with water. Among the unearthed objects, there are wooden containers with charred bottom, exquisite woodcarving bowls, a fishing net and some alder leaves. The leaves were green when they were first unearthed, and gradually faded to brown after being exposed to the air. There is also a whale fin carved in pine, which is inlaid with more than 700 sea otter teeth, which is quite beautiful, showing that the ancient Maka people's craftsmanship is quite high.

Wooden houses, wooden household goods, labor tools and artistic products all show that there used to be a vast and lush forest here, which nurtured the nearby residents. Later, perhaps due to the destruction of vegetation and excessive logging, the disaster that several generations unconsciously brewed suddenly came one morning: a storm wrapped in soil collapsed and buried the village of Ogit, and several human bones, curled-up dogs, an unfinished comb and sawdust that were not cleaned in time indicated that the village of Ogit suddenly fell from the sky. No one seems to sleep on the kang. Perhaps the disaster happened during the day, so some lucky Maca people survived and passed on that shocking scene from generation to generation.
