Why did George Washington go to the west as a land surveyor?

/kloc-in the summer of 0/747, William Fairfax had an important plan. This is to re-survey and measure the vast territory west of the Blue Ridge near Belfo. Because before that, many illegal immigrants from nowhere had "occupied" this territory, cut down trees and planted crops.
