Visa requirements for China citizens to go to South Korea

Visa type

Korean embassies and consulates abroad issue three kinds of visas according to the purpose of the applicant's visit to Korea: tourist visa, transit visa and residence visa.

Tourist visas are short-term visas for foreign tourists, with a maximum stay of 90 days; Transit visa is a visa for foreigners to pass through Korea and stay in Korea for no more than 45 days when going to a third country or returning to their home country; Residence visas are for those who stay in Korea for more than 90 days. Long-term visa holders must also obtain the entry permit from the Ministry of Justice and apply for a residence permit at the local "residence jurisdiction office" within 90 days after entry. To apply for a residence permit, you need to submit your passport, photos and fill out a residence application form.

Visiting relatives tourist visa

China citizens who have relatives living in South Korea should apply to the Korea Exit-Entry Administration, and they can apply for visas at the Korean Embassy in China only with the visa issuance certificate issued by the Korea Exit-Entry Administration. And provide the following materials:

(1) invitation letter (1 in duplicate). The invitation letter shall specify the name, age and address of the applicant.

(2) Submit a letter that can reflect the wishes of relatives in China to visit relatives.

(3) Provide detailed information about relatives living in China and Korea.

(4) Provide detailed information about the separation of relatives and how to restore contact.

(5) Copy of the blood relationship household registration book, 1 in duplicate.

(6) provide photos of the applicant.

Applicants who go to South Korea can apply for passports from local public security organs after receiving the formalities sent by their relatives in South Korea.

After obtaining a passport for going abroad, the applicant photocopies pages/kloc-0-5, and then applies for an entry visa to the Korean embassy in China with the copied passport, entry visa application form and 8 photos. After approval, notify the applicant.

At present, South Korea only accepts immigration applications from foreign citizens who are married to Korean citizens, or Korean descendants who have made meritorious contributions to the anti-Japanese war living overseas.

China citizens travelling to Korea on business need valid passports and visas to enter Korea. Passengers with departure tickets can stay in Korea visa-free for up to 15 days. Some tourists can get transit visas at the airport by showing their confirmed reservation visas, allowing them to visit Korea 1 week.

The duration of a general tourist visa is 30 days, and you can apply for an extension 1 month before the original visa expires. Holders of valid Korean visas who need to extend their stay should apply to the local immigration office at least one day before the expiration date, but not more than twice at most.

Student visa

Korean law prohibits ordinary foreign workers from entering the country for employment. However, in recent years, due to the increasing labor shortage in industrial and commercial enterprises, the government has to allow enterprises to introduce some foreign labor in the name of "foreigners studying industrial technology" under the pressure of industrial and commercial enterprises. The "Guidelines on Handling the Business of Issuing Industrial Technology Study Abroad Visa to Foreigners" issued by the Korean Ministry of Justice stipulates such issues as the visa issuing object, quantity, stay time and Korean enterprises accepting such study abroad.

Visas are issued to foreigners studying or studying in the following four types of enterprises. These four types of enterprises are:

(1) Enterprises and industrial sectors that directly invest overseas or have cooperative relations with overseas enterprises according to the Foreign Exchange Control Law;

(2) Industrial departments or enterprises that provide technology overseas according to the Technology Development Promotion Law;

(3) Enterprises that export industrial equipment overseas according to the Foreign Trade Law;

(4) those who do not meet one of the above three conditions shall be recommended by the competent authorities as industrial departments or enterprises with necessary training with the approval of the Minister of Justice.

According to the detailed rules for the implementation of the Guide for Handling Technical Visas for Foreigners' Continuing Education Industry, the number of visas for foreign trainees that can be issued by relevant enterprises depends on the scale of enterprises that accept trainees, but the maximum number shall not exceed 50. The specific distribution scope is:

50-99 people, 5-8 people

300-499, 20-30

More than 500 people, 30-50 people

Foreign student visas are usually valid for no more than 6 months. If the Minister of Justice thinks it necessary, he can apply for an extension, but generally it will not exceed six months.

Hold an official visa

When China people go to South Korea to discuss economic and trade business, they need to hold an invitation letter, a notarial certificate and a letter of approval from the relevant authorities (all originals), fill out two application forms and attach three photos, and go through the visa formalities at the Korean Embassy in China. It usually takes a week. Before sending an invitation, the relevant parties in South Korea should first obtain the approval of the relevant government agencies, otherwise even if there is an invitation letter, they will not get a visa.

When China government personnel go to South Korea to perform official duties (holding official passports), they must provide invitations and employment certificates; China people must provide an invitation letter and employment certificate when they receive an invitation from a relevant subordinate chief of the Korean government or a local government chief related to their business; Those who go to Korea to participate in international conferences and competitions must provide invitations, minutes of international conferences and competitions; Those who go to Korean government agencies (including affiliated organizations), specialized educational institutions or academic research institutions to participate in academic exchanges must provide invitations and employment certificates.

When a delegation goes to South Korea for business activities, it shall inform the Korean reception unit in writing of the list, position, date of birth, resume, purpose of inspection and specific requirements, and relevant letters and telegrams shall be written in Korean or English. And pay attention to timely send a copy to the Korean Embassy in South China to help contact and implement the relevant reception plan. Where conditions permit, it is best for the dispatching unit to send a letter directly to negotiate with the person in charge of the Korean reception unit to clarify the way of bearing the expenses.

When China people go to work in Korea for business purposes, they generally need to provide an invitation letter and employment certificate from the ROK, and at the same time they need to hold the original ID card and household registration book. The specific requirements are as follows:

1. Korean government agencies must provide an invitation letter and proof of employment when invited.

2. Employees of China enterprises who set up branches or make investments in Korea must provide an invitation letter, a copy of the company establishment permit or a copy of the investment permit.

3. When inviting Korean enterprises with an annual turnover of more than US$ 500,000 in China, they should provide an invitation letter, a certificate of legal person's seal, an employment certificate of subordinate units or a business trip certificate.

4. The employees of the head office directly under the Central Government of China shall provide invitations, employment certificates of subordinate units or business trip certificates.

5. When invited by Korean government investment institutions (25 designated), financial institutions (26 designated), Korea External Trade Organization, Korea Trade Association, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Central Committee of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, and Trade Union for Promoting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, they shall provide an invitation letter, legal person seal certificate and employment certificate.

6. When inviting Korean enterprises (428 companies designated by the Ministry of Justice) that have invested more than US$ 654.38 million in China, they shall provide an invitation letter, a copy of business license, a copy of overseas investment, and employment certificates.

to extend or renew a visa

If a tourist visa holder wants to extend his visa, he should personally apply to the local immigration bureau with his passport within the validity period of the original visa. But not more than twice at most.

Holders of residence visas should apply to the local immigration office in person with their passports, application forms and temporary residence permits. Within 5 days before the expiration of the original visa, you can continue to stay after approval.

If you want to leave Korea for re-entry within a specific period of time, you only need to apply for a re-entry permit before leaving the country, and you don't need to apply for a visa again.

Re-entry permit

Foreigners living in Korea do not need to apply for a new visa if they want to leave Korea and re-enter Korea within a certain period of time, as long as they have obtained a re-entry permit before leaving Korea.

Citizens of France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Suriname do not need to apply for re-entry permits as long as they return to South Korea within the residence period reported to the Korean authorities.
