I. Entry Procedures for Studying in the United States
1. On the plane, flight attendants will issue I-94 entry and exit cards and CF-6059 customs declaration forms.
I-94 card is also called entry and exit record card. All foreign travelers must fill in the form on the front page in English capital letters, and don't fill in anything on the back of the form. If you don't know how to fill out a form, you can ask the driver for help.
The CF-6059 customs declaration form is filled in before boarding or leaving the country, that is, the baggage is declared to the customs, and it is also filled in on the plane, depending on the departure airport.
2. Under normal circumstances, after disembarking, the entry inspection shall be conducted according to the following procedures:
A) Please prepare your passport, SEVISI-20 or DS-20 19 form, I-94 entry-exit record card and CF-6059 customs declaration form before you arrive at the checkpoint, so that you can show them to the officials of the Customs and Border Protection Bureau.
B) There are four main inspection items at the American port of entry:
1) public health; 2) Immigration status; 3) Customs inspection; 4) agricultural inspection. These four inspections can be conducted by one official or several officials.
C) When you arrive at the port of entry, please go to the exit of the inbound passengers, and wait in line for inspection according to the different entry visas when you arrive at the entry inspection room. Non-immigrant visa holders (F 1) should wait in line for non-residents in the area where foreign tourists enter; Holders of immigrant visas or green cards should be listed as citizens/residents.
D) When it is your turn to be inspected, please submit your passport, SEVIS I-20 or DS form, I-94 entry and exit record card (indicating the address where you will live in the United States) and CF-6059 customs declaration form to the immigration officer for inspection.
E) As usual, immigration officials will ask you some questions, such as "staying in the United States", "purpose of visiting the United States", "planned length of stay in the United States" and "how much money to bring". When answering questions, you must state that you are a student or an exchange scholar, and the name and address of your school or exchange program.
F) After asking questions, the immigration officer will ask you to leave fingerprints on the scanning equipment and take digital photos on the spot. Finally, they will stamp the I-20 or IAP-66 and I-94, stamp the entry date (this date is the last time visitors to the United States are allowed to live in the United States), sign the visa status and the legal re-entry period, and set this card on the inside page of the passport.
G) The immigration officer will tear off the exit part of I-94, nail it on the passport and return the third page of I-20 or IAP-66 to you. You should immediately confirm that the information added is correct, and if there are any mistakes, please correct them immediately. Going back to ask or ask questions after leaving the counter will only increase your troubles.
Second, you must bring things when studying in the United States.
1, valid visa passport, you can make a copy for backup if you are not at ease.
2. I-20 form issued by the school.
3. Ticket paper travel to travel itinerary (now you don't have to take it).
4. luggage.
5. Take some paper money with you, including RMB and USD; At least USD cash or traveler's checks from 200 yuan should be carried in USD, and it is better to carry 1, 5, 10 small notes to 20 yuan. Don't carry a lot of cash. Don't forget the quarter in case you need it to make a phone call or rent a baggage car at the airport. Cash can be placed in two or three different places on your body, such as an inner bag or a suitcase with a zipper.
6. Phone number: Take all the phone numbers you need when you arrive in the United States, and make sure you have your own phone number (including the country code), the number of the foreign student consultant, and the number of the nearest embassy or consulate in your country.
7. Contact information: Bring the correct address of the school, including the city and state name.
If you are careless at ordinary times, you can prepare a personal bag, carry important documents with you, put them back in time after use, and don't take them in your hand.
The suitcase can be tied with a bright belt or pasted with some stickers, which can prevent others from taking the luggage by mistake. Hanging a small sign on your luggage and writing your contact information is also a way to help you find your luggage.
3. Under what circumstances will international students be repatriated?
Suspicion of identity: You are too nervous when communicating with customs officers, and your language expression is not smooth, so you will be refused entry because the other party doubts your status as an international student.
Impure entry purpose: If you are found by the customs to be suspected of wanting to work illegally in the United States, for example, foreign students will be repatriated because the prosecutor doubts your purpose of studying abroad.
Violation of social information: Since social software was only checked on communication devices last year, many international students suffered a big loss when faced with this step.
Unnecessary information such as large-scale words, pictures, and bad comments on the United States can be deleted so as not to add trouble to yourself.
