Overseas immigrants who return to China to study will depend on the length of nationality and must hold a passport for more than 4 years.

From next year, after the residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan emigrated and obtained the status of foreigners, they will check the "nationality years" when applying for mainland universities as international students. Recently, the Ministry of Education issued a document to supplement the relevant regulations on the admission of foreign students in ordinary colleges and universities. Only China overseas immigrants who have held foreign passports for more than 4 years and have settled abroad for a total of 2 years can apply for studying in domestic universities.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, starting from 20 10, residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will emigrate and obtain the status of foreigners. When applying for studying in mainland universities as foreign students, applicants for studying abroad must hold valid foreign passports or international documents for more than 4 years (inclusive), and have a record of actually living abroad for more than 2 years in the last 4 years (before April 30 of the year of enrollment). Among them, those who have actually lived in a foreign country for nine months within one year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry-exit signature.

It is understood that this regulation is a supplementary regulation formulated by the Ministry of Education in view of the fact that in recent years, universities have gradually increased their applications for studying in China as international students after accepting residents from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to emigrate, and the implementation policies for universities are different. According to the regulations, institutions of higher learning can accept an applicant to study in China only after he/she meets other registration qualifications of the school.
