Experienced all kinds of ups and downs that international students will encounter in China. Recently, she used her holiday to visit relatives in China and told reporters about her experiences and feelings in the past eight years in a cafe in Shenzhen.

I remember before I came to New Zealand, I watched my classmates go abroad one after another, or heard many interesting things about studying abroad. I don't know how envious I was.

It is said that China students studying abroad are often the best in their classes, and they can't help but yearn for life abroad. Finally, I got my wish and went abroad. In 2000, I started my overseas trip in New Zealand, when I was a young international student who had not graduated from high school.

I still remember my first impression of New Zealand when I got off the plane in Auckland in July that year. The weather is slightly cooler, the blue sky is like washing, and the countryside with white clouds as white as sheep seems to have entered the painting. My first stop in New Zealand was Levin, a small town in the south of North Island. Since then, my life seems to have entered another space. Listening to New Zealand English that I can't keep up with, I saw kind foreign teachers and host families in a quiet and meticulous atmosphere.

Five months later, I moved to Wellington, 200 kilometers away to study, because I really couldn't stand the boredom and loneliness of the small town, and I longed for the big city.

Live independently? Grow up overnight?

As the capital, Wellington's prosperity cannot be compared with Levin's. I went to a new school and met many classmates, but the teacher didn't care much about us. The indifference and coping of the new host family forced me to move out quickly and start renting independently. But in any case, after all, when I came to a big city, my life was enriched and I ate and played more. My friends and I often go shopping and eat in the city center after school, and really feel another way of life in New Zealand, which is completely different from the small town. Renting a house also adds a lot of extra work to yourself every day, such as washing and cooking, cleaning and paying electricity bills, and going to the supermarket on weekends. These odds and ends really take up a lot of time and energy. Coupled with the pressure of reading, the daily schedule is full. I feel much more independent and have learned many life skills, including how to face setbacks.

There is no denying that those years' experience really greatly improved my living ability. Walking home from the beginning will get lost, and later dare to run around the world with a map. I used to call my parents when something happened, and then I had to carry it myself no matter what happened. Sort of. Grow up overnight? This feeling.

I haven't been home for three years, and I'm lonely during the New Year.

Two years after high school, I was admitted to Victoria University and chose biology as my major. To be honest, for a long time, biology class gave me the feeling that it was difficult. When I was a freshman, my grades were not satisfactory and I barely passed the final exam. But fortunately, I made it to the end. After the difficulties, I gradually became interested in this subject. In the summer vacation of my sophomore year, I got a valuable internship opportunity in the largest dairy company in New Zealand, which gave me a deep understanding of biotechnology and its application. At that time, I was quite sure that this was my future goal. After finishing the third grade, I got several interviews for different jobs. Because of my internship experience and the favorable comments of my referees, I quickly found a job as a researcher in a university laboratory and started working one month after graduation. In the next few months, I successfully completed the transition from an international student to an immigrant, and the road ahead became extremely broad in an instant, and I have since become a model in the eyes of my classmates and friends.

Although I paid a lot of money to get these, for example, I didn't return to China for three years in a row. Every year, I worked alone during the Spring Festival when others and my family were reunited, and I never took a complete holiday. Besides, I often work overtime to impress my boss. Sometimes I am so tired that I really want to give up. But when I saw myself overcoming one difficulty after another and getting closer and closer to my goal, I felt that all my efforts paid off after all.

I want to go back to China, but I put it off again and again.

My family has been urging me to go back to work. Many of my classmates and friends abroad have also returned to China in the past two years, and they all seem to be doing well. Like the more than 100 China students who studied at Victoria University with me, most of them have returned to China, and only a dozen have stayed in New Zealand to work.

I am still young and more enterprising. Returning to China is a good way out. However, it has been dragging on for several years. Originally I wanted to go back with my residence status, and then I wanted to study. Now I've almost finished reading the book, but I haven't decided where to go.

New Zealand carries the best and most unforgettable memories of my life. My growth path was branded with New Zealand. No one can predict what the future will be like. Maybe I will return to my motherland in a few years, but the love, hate, sadness and joy I experienced in New Zealand will become emotional memories that I can't give up all my life.
