Consul General is roughly equivalent to counsellor among diplomats, a few senior diplomats are equivalent to ambassadors, and junior diplomats can only be equivalent to first-class secretaries.
Legal basis: Article 86 of the Civil Service Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).
