Thinking trap (9) blame others

Blame others

When something bad happens, people always try to find a clear and simple reason to blame others, which is what we call the instinct of blaming others.

For example, syphilis has different names in different countries.

In Russia, it is called polish disease; In Poland, it is called German disease; In Germany, it is called French disease; In France, it is called Italian disease; In Italy, they call it French disease.

Looking for scapegoats seems to be deeply rooted in human nature, so it is hard to imagine that Swedes will call this disease Swedish disease, or Russians will call this disease Russian disease.

We always need to blame others. If we find a foreigner suffering from this disease, then we will happily blame their whole country and give this disease a foreign name. We don't need any evidence to make these accusations.

For another example, Trump blamed China for the new title, but did he solve the problem? No, there are more patients in America than in the whole world.

Similarly, some people blame Mr. Chuan for the sweater war, but can Mr. Chuan's stepping down solve the problem?

The instinct to blame others always leads us to find an object of blame and ignore the understanding of the truth.

When we are too persistent in blaming others, we will lose our attention and our ability to learn.

In 20 15, 4,000 refugees sneaked into Europe, when their rubber boat capsized and drowned in the Mediterranean. Many photos of children's bodies were released, which caused widespread fear and sympathy.

When we are enjoying a comfortable life, we can't help thinking, how can this happen? Who are we to blame?

We soon found the scapegoat, that is, the greedy and cruel snakeheads, who deceived the refugees and let them board the deadly rubber dinghy at the price of 1000 euros per person.

Once we found the scapegoat, we stopped thinking further.

If, on second thought, why don't refugees fly?

Do they have no money? No, the plane ticket is only a few tens of euros, and they obviously gave the snakehead 1000 euros, so money is not a problem.

Can't they go to the airport? No, everyone knows how to get to the airport.

They can afford air tickets and there are many seats on the plane, but at the boarding counter, the airline staff stopped them and refused to let them board the plane. Why?

Because the European Parliament stipulates that any airline or ferry company that brings in illegal immigrants must bear all the repatriation expenses.

This rule applies to illegal immigrants, not refugees. But airlines can't judge whether a person is a refugee or an illegal immigrant, so they all refuse. Unless you have a visa.

But it is difficult to get a visa, so smuggling has become the only option.

But why do you have to take a rubber boat, such a dangerous means of transportation?

Because of EU policy, all ships smuggled into Europe will be confiscated once they are found. So these cross-sea tools can only be used once. In order to reduce costs, snakeheads can only choose the cheapest and most unsafe rubber dinghy.

Knowing this, the EU introduced a new policy and began to accept a large number of refugees.

Imagine, if the mistake is blamed on the snakehead, can the EU introduce a new policy?

(But the scourge created by refugees also gives EU countries a headache, which is another story. )

If you want to control your instinct to blame others, you should stop looking for scapegoats.

Find the reason, not the bad guys. When something bad happens, don't try to blame any individual or group. First of all, accept the fact that no one did it on purpose. Then try to understand the systematic reasons behind this.

Look for the system, not the hero. When someone claims to have done a great thing, ask yourself, can it happen without this person? Usually, when the whole system works well, good things will happen.

(Note: Syphilis comes from America. When Columbus discovered the New World, Europeans brought smallpox to America, and America gave Europeans syphilis. )
