Linxian County is next to Shanxi County.

Linzhou is located at the eastern foot of Taihang Mountain in the northernmost part of Henan Province, facing Changzhi City of Shanxi across Taihang Mountain. The nearest places to Linzhou are Pingshun County and Huguan County in Changzhi City. Due to the lack of water, in 1960s, under extremely difficult conditions, Linzhou people, with the support of Shanxi people, built the Hongqi Canal in the waist section of Taihang Mountain, successfully introduced Zhanghe River water from Shanxi, and gave birth to the spirit of Hongqi Canal.
