The Back of East Summer Mountain —— My Alma mater
"The back of Dongxia Mountain" is a hillside in the middle of nowhere, and the nearest village is Dongxia Village, hence its name.
To the "East Summer Mountain Back", all roads are dirt roads. If it rains, it's hard to walk on a broken dirt road. Wearing rain boots, muddy loess pulp sticks, rain boots become rain boots, no matter how heavy they are, they can't be lifted. Walk barefoot, take three steps and slip one step, and you will fall if you are not careful.
It is dusty in sunny days and muddy in rainy days, which is the true description of the "East Summer Mountain Back" by local villagers.
My alma mater in junior high school was built in the "East Summer Mountain Back", a "I"-shaped teaching bungalow, with six classes from grade one to grade three. The northernmost part is a row of teachers' dormitories and offices. There are two vegetable fields between the classroom and the office, and there is a concrete corridor in the middle.
The whole school is open except for the walls on the east and west sides of the teachers' dormitory, and outsiders can enter and leave at will.
We can often see nearby villagers tying cows on the school playground. Naughty students can only catch a few loaches from the nearby fields during lunch break.
In our eyes, the campus at that time was idyllic, and green hills could be seen in the classroom. When we walked out of the school gate, we were farmland full of crops and farmers working in the fields. In the southwest of the school, there is the picturesque Jiufeng Mountain.
Such an idyllic campus, a playground full of local flavor and a classroom full of crops are simply impossible for students now.

Steamed? meals
At that time, everyone finished primary school in their respective villages (at that time, every village had primary schools) and went to the "East Summer Mountain Back" to attend junior high school. As they all come from nearby villages, everyone speaks the same accent and wears the same style of clothes. No one thought anyone was special, and everyone soon got to know each other.
For students from Chencun, Taosi, Eastern Xia, Bian Feng, Hou Xu, Yau Ma Che and Baihe Diankou, I have a natural affinity, because my family and I have been to these places, and I can casually tell some characteristics of their villages.
But places like Wu Lijin, Daijia, Zhaikou, Shangjing, Hudui and Jiangcun are a little strange, but the students in these places can describe their villages in a distinctive way, which makes you want to see them at once.
Houda is a big village with a large population, which is not far from the "East Summer Mountain Back" and can be reached in half an hour. Compared with students in Chencun who have to roll up their trouser legs and wade across the stream to go to school (wooden bridges are built and often washed away by water) and students in Taosi who go to school by mountain roads, our students feel much cheaper because of their geographical advantages.
The biggest change in junior high school is lifestyle, that is, Chinese food must be steamed at school.
Every morning when I arrive at school, I put down my schoolbag. The first thing I did was not take a textbook, but rushed to the well at the school gate with a lunch box (there was no running water at first) to fetch water and wash rice, and then put the rice in the lunch box into the big steamer in the canteen.
Time was concentrated in the morning, and many students arrived. Everyone circled around the well, waiting for water and rice. There is only one bucket, but no one is vying for it. It is natural to follow the first-come-first-served order.
In junior high school for three years, I have never met anyone who quarreled because of fetching water and washing rice. The kindness of rural people can be seen.
It's just that everyone's lunch boxes look similar, and some careless students occasionally take them wrong when eating. So it is necessary to engrave the name on the lunch box.
When the bell rang at noon, we immediately rushed to the canteen with our bellies growling, surrounded by steaming steamers, found our own lunch box in the lunch box pile, and ran back to the classroom with it (there is no table and no space in the canteen, and the desk is the dining table, sometimes we will take the lunch box to the playground to eat), and took out the enamel cup from the net bag hanging on the nail beside the desk, which contained dried vegetables or pickles brought from home, and sometimes poached eggs, but
Everyone is talking and laughing together, tasting the dishes brought from home and eating delicious white rice. Maybe only then can we understand happiness and satisfaction.
Living conditions were bitter at that time. We ate coarse grains and rice, wore coarse clothes and walked along muddy paths, but we didn't feel much bitter, but enjoyed it.
Eating pickles, dried vegetables and white rice can keep up with the nutrients needed for physical growth. I have never heard of this disease.
The diet at that time was natural and safe.
Steamed rice, in particular, smells delicious as soon as the lid is opened. I haven't eaten it since, and it still makes my mouth water when I think about it.

Spring outing accident
The reason why I want to write about spring outing is because it is the most desirable extracurricular group activity, and it is also related to my personal accident. Spring outing left me not only memories, but also feelings.
At that time, the whole class organized a spring outing to Dayan Reservoir (the reservoir), led by the class teacher Fan, and walked all the way from Houdashan to Shangsheng and then to Xucun to Dayan. Fan, a stout photographer, went with him.
When I came back, I might have sprained my ankle accidentally when I walked to Guzhen Mountain. I can't walk because of the pain. Although I rubbed it hard with my hands, my ankle was still red and swollen. The teacher also squatted down to help me rub for a long time, and the pain eased a little, but it still hurt when my feet touched the ground.
On the back of the desolate Guzhen Mountain, it is more than four miles from the nearest Jiu Feng Agricultural Middle School. There was no telephone at that time, so I had to grit my teeth and stand on tiptoe.
Wait a minute,
"Why not call people back?"
Jin Yuji, you two are stronger at Fan Wei Bridge.
Without allowing me to answer, the teacher's words just fell and Jin Yuji and Fan Wei Bridge came to me, and they wanted to carry me away.
We are just classmates, about the same size, and we are very tired all the way. How dare I let my classmates carry me?
Needless to say, I really can't let go of this face, just my feet hurt.
After I repeatedly refused, everyone thought of a compromise and asked them to help me walk.
Two classmates helped me walk for a while, and after the pain gradually eased, a single classmate took turns to help me continue walking.
Seeing the sweat from Jin Yuji and Fan Wei Bridge, I am full of apologies and more grateful.
Because I walk slowly, it affects everyone's walking speed. If I go like this, I'm afraid it will be dark when my classmates go home.
The teacher decided to take the other students first, and Jin Yuji and Fan Wei Bridge helped me walk slowly behind, and were responsible for escorting me home.
It's not far from the back of Gu Zhen Mountain to Houda University, but it took nearly 2 hours to walk, and it was already dark when I got home.
It is the meticulous care of teachers and classmates that keeps me from suffering.
Although more than 30 years have passed, I still remember it vividly.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Teacher Fan and Heqiao again, and thank the students!

Late? Since? habit
At that time, reading was not as stressful as children now. My parents are busy with farm work all day and have no energy to manage our study. The teacher won't even give us a lot of homework. They just grab it before the final exam of each semester and have a concentrated review.
After school in the afternoon, we naturally go home and use the time before dinner to help our family do farm work or housework.
As there is no TV at home, I am free at night. Therefore, the teacher suggested that "conditional villages can organize students to study at night". Houda Village has more than 10 students, which is of course conditional.
Shu is a study committee member and has won the trust of all teachers. It is logical for her to take the lead in organizing "evening self-study".
After dinner, take your textbook to Shu's home.
Fan Lanfang, Chen Juqing, Fan, Fan Aihua, Fan and Fan Saiqun are all female students, but it seems that only Fan and I are among the male students.
But it doesn't matter. This is not mandatory.
He said that he came to "study at night", but as soon as the textbook was opened, he forgot the purpose of his visit and digressed. Instead, he told interesting stories during recess and interesting stories about teachers in various subjects during the day.
Teachers who are usually called more serious suddenly become such as "Ding" (Teacher Fan) and "Wow, there are roots" (Teacher Fan Yougen). Note: Teacher Fan Yougen died two years ago, so I'm here to express my condolences) or simply call him by his first name, accompanied by bursts of laughter.
When several girls are together, they talk nonstop as soon as they start talking. In Shuhongdi, they repeatedly motioned for silence before finding a moment of silence. With the joke "Di Hong, your book fell down", the scene that had just been quiet came alive again.
In the laughter, I didn't finish reading the last page of the opened textbook, and the night passed quickly.
At that time, we didn't seem to feel the pressure of the senior high school entrance examination, and there was not so much competition between us. Classes, homework, exams, these sound boring, which is normal for us.
Although we all come from different villages, we live together like brothers and sisters. There is no comparison, no jealousy, and no classmates are usually busy attending cram schools, and they are nervous about the senior high school entrance examination.
At that time, the study life was full of fun, which made the present study life so unforgettable.

Strict teacher
There are many courses in junior high school, such as Chinese, mathematics, English, physics, chemistry and politics, which are taught by different teachers.
What impressed me the most was Mr. Zheng, who taught English (when I wrote this article, I learned that Mr. Zheng died last year, and my heart was really sad, so I wanted to keep this article as a souvenir), an old educated youth transferred from the northeast, with a chubby round face, two thick lips and a strong northeast accent, wearing a black felt hat all the year round, as if to cover up some secrets on his head.
Context is the key to learning English. If we use English in our daily communication, it should be of direct help to learning English.
Many of our parents were even illiterate at that time. Besides listening to the teacher read English in class, we only stay in a daze when we go home and read English books.
There are also good students, especially girls, whose English scores are generally better than ours.
Seeing that our boys are so disappointing, Mr. Zheng is anxious and hates iron to produce.
In English class, boys are often called to the blackboard to recite English words and practice their pronunciation. Even if you speak Mandarin with a dialect accent, you have to accept Mr. Zheng's special punishment.
When he was punished, he hung his head and pursed his ass, and asked Mr. Zheng to spank him with a broom.
Mistyped one word, two words and three phonetic symbols.
There is no boy in the class who hasn't been beaten. In my impression, Liu Zhengzhong and Liu Weihai were beaten the most.
Of course, punishment is only a means, and learning English well is the purpose. Teacher Zheng's heart is like a mirror, and his men have their own discretion.
Now think about it, Mr. Zheng is caused by his job responsibilities. Due to historical reasons, he himself was delayed at the best age. I hope we can cherish the present opportunity and learn English well. He wants us to succeed so badly.
Teacher Fan used to be our head teacher and a teacher who had the most profound influence on me.
He studied in the Chinese Department of Zhejiang University, but he came to teach Chinese without graduation due to historical reasons, and continued to study university courses while teaching.
Teacher Fan is knowledgeable, gentle, eloquent and writes well. His calligraphy is magnificent and unconstrained, but it is unique, which is very similar to his character.
Especially in class, Teacher Fan never brings handouts and walks into the classroom with textbooks under his arm.
When giving lectures, he is easy to understand, handy and close to the subject. The theme of the text comes to mind with his unconstrained thoughts, and he often has original opinions on the articles in the textbook.
I just fell in love with writing after listening to his class.
Teacher Fan is also very helpful to me.
At that time, in order to meet the exam, I tried to have more time to study, and I wanted to use the time to go back and forth every day. I was afraid to speak, so I asked my family to tell the teacher about it. I didn't expect teacher Fan to agree to help solve it.
Actually, it's living on campus. At that time, East Summer Mountain Back had no dormitory, so Teacher Fan arranged for me to stay in his room for more than a month.
It was this month that all my lessons were consolidated and my grades improved significantly.
It was the teacher who created the conditions for me to make full use of the time on the road and at home every day. This is the harvest. I sincerely thank Teacher Fan.
Teacher Fan has a special feature and likes to take us out for sightseeing. Go to any place in the vast field to observe and come back to write a composition. The subject format is not limited, and it is required to be completed in class.
Shu, Fan and my compositions are often rated as model essays.
There are also Qiao, Fan Aihua, Zou, Fan Lanfang, Wang Peiliang, Fang Genyuan and Jiang Xiangyang, all of whom are teachers' favorite students.
Teacher Fan has always had the habit of smoking besides attending classes. Later, I went to a school in a province to participate in a provincial composition competition. I wrote an article on the topic "Please quit smoking, teacher" and won the second prize.
What teachers say and do affects us all the time, absorbing nutrition and benefiting for life.
More than 30 years have passed, and my writing habit has been maintained to this day.
Politics is taught by Professor Shao, the principal. He gives the impression that he is capable and decisive. In class, we are often interspersed with some common sense of life. For example, whether we get up in the morning or not, we have to squat in the toilet for a few minutes, and then turn the toothpaste upside down when it is half used, so that the toothpaste is on the head and does not have to be squeezed from the bottom.
I have always done this, especially the first one, which has benefited people a lot. Thanks to Mr. Shao.
At that time, there was a minority teacher named Lei Shoulin. He is young and full of pride, with long black hair and a handsome face. He was a PE teacher at that time, and both boys and girls liked his physical education class.
However, some elderly teachers didn't like young people with long hair at that time. They secretly called Mr. Wang "punk" and Mr. Lei "hooligan". In retrospect, it's funny. There are still men with pigtails on the street now.
Mr Fang, who teaches our music class, has a good voice and plays the organ very well. He likes to wear a pair of bell-bottoms that were popular at that time. His shoes are bright and full of vigor. His "Sea, Hometown" is affectionate and beautiful, and I can still sing the whole song according to the melody.
There are also teachers Wang Genru, Lin Shenggui, Fan, Sheng, Xia and xu teacher. These teachers who sweated like rain on the back of the East Summer Mountain and devoted themselves to teaching us to grow up and give us warmth are now in their twilight years.
Teacher, please take care of yourself and enjoy your old age.
Thank you teacher!
Thanks to the deep land of "East Summer Mountain Back".
Postscript:
1990 On the first day of the first month, Shu, I, Fan, Fan Aihua took the lead in organizing a junior high school classmate party. With the strong support of Mr. Wang Genru, the venue was selected in the original Class B classroom of "Dongxia Shanbei" (note: the enrollment of "Dongxia Shanbei" junior high school 1990 stopped in the second half of the year). This reunion is the result of Shu braving the cold and riding a bicycle from village to village, inviting students one by one.
Here, I would like to thank our study Committee member Shu for his sincere efforts.
Special thanks to Shu for his help in this article.
Thank you, Fan, and for your information.
