In the Hongxi tragedy, the Dutch slaughtered 65,438+10,000 overseas Chinese. Why did Gan Long curse overseas Chinese to death?
But before the Opium War, this was not the case. The rulers of the Qing empire are still paralyzed by the so-called "prosperous times of health and happiness", closing their eyes and pretending to be a country of China, feeling that the world is barbarian.
1740, that is, five years after Qianlong, a tragedy that shocked the world occurred in Jakarta, Nanyang. More than 10,000 Chinese living in Jakarta were massacred by Dutch colonists.
The Hongxi Massacre was an incident in which the Dutch East Indian authorities massacred Chinese in Jakarta today in 1740 (during the reign of Qing Qianlong). The massacre lasted for seven days, and nearly 10,000 people in China died tragically. Because there is a Hongxi River there, it is named Hongxi River.
Why were Chinese in Jakarta slaughtered by Dutch colonists? Why did Ganlong abandon them?
Things have to start with 1790. At that time, China was in the Qianlong period. In Jakarta, Indonesia, there are a large number of Chinese, especially Meixian people in Guangdong. They left their homes to do business here, and soon became a settlement of China people.
After the Dutch colonists occupied Jakarta, because of the shortage of labor, the population was very scarce and the materials were extremely scarce. Therefore, in order to develop the economy of this area, Dutch colonists began to call on their own people to emigrate, because it was too far away, and no one wanted to settle in Jakarta at all.
So the Dutch found that China people are a good force and hard-working, so they formulated a very generous policy to attract China people to settle in Jakarta.
This policy is very effective. In just a few decades, the number of Chinese has reached tens of thousands, and Chinese have become an important force in Jakarta. However, the Dutch colonists were worried that China people would threaten their rule, so they began to restrict China immigrants and introduced several policies one after another, which became more and more strict with China people, but the restrictions did not play much role.
1727, the Dutch colonial authorities issued a policy: 10 to 12, all China people who lived in Batavia without applying to the authorities for residence permit will be deported.
1736, the policy is even stricter, saying that only China people who are considered useful by the authorities can stay, while others have to be repatriated. This has aroused the dissatisfaction of many people in China.
Later, with the saturation of the European sugar market and the impact of sugar from South America, the sugar industry, as a pillar industry in Jakarta, was severely impacted, many people went bankrupt, the economy began to decline, and the society was in turmoil. The local "overpopulated" Chinese became the primary target of Dutch colonists.
The intensification of this contradiction successfully divided the Chinese and Dutch colonists into two different forces, so some Chinese refused to be humiliated, elected leaders, took up arms and prepared to attack the Dutch colonists at any time.
But unexpectedly, among these China people, there was a traitor named Lin Chu who told the Dutch colonists. So the Dutch ordered a house-to-house search of China people, regardless of gender or age, and shot them.
1740 On the night of August 25th, Dutch colonists suddenly attacked local Chinese shops, plundered Chinese shops and slaughtered Chinese in the city. In just three days, more than 10,000 Chinese were killed in Jakarta, and only 150 people escaped.
This incident shocked the whole world, and western countries strongly condemned the Dutch colonists. The Dutch were afraid that the Qing dynasty would retaliate against them, so they sent envoys to the Qing dynasty to make amends. In fact, the Dutch thought too much.
According to historical records, on the third day after the massacre, the then Governor of Fujian wrote a letter to Gan Long to the effect that "the vassal state slaughtered tens of thousands of people in China", but Gan Long did not reply. Later, the Governor of Guangdong Province also investigated the matter, and then wrote a letter saying that "all China people in Indian cities were killed."
Hearing this, Gan Long swore, but it was not the Dutch who swore, but the slaughtered overseas Chinese. In the history books, Gan Long's answers were recorded verbatim.
Gan Long said that those overseas Chinese "abandoned Wang Hua and were born in other places, which is no different from the people". "Those who disobeyed the orders of the mainland and were willing to stay for a long time, those who should have practiced in China, were killed in foreign countries, and they deserved it."
Gan Long said, what is an overseas Chinese? Overseas Chinese are people who voluntarily gave up the enlightenment in China and went to the outside land. Such people are outsiders. Such people who are willing to live outside for so long should be dealt with according to our laws in China. Now he's out in trouble and killed. I deserve it.
This is Gan Long's attitude towards the people of China. To put it bluntly, these China people who were killed were not from the Qing Dynasty at all. They deserve to be killed this time.
How did Qing treat those overseas Chinese who didn't die and then returned to China? Once, a Fujian native who had lived overseas for more than 20 years returned to China with his youngest son. As a result, all his property was confiscated and exiled. The reason is that "these bandits went abroad privately, that is, they were banned, and the situation was hidden for many years. I don't know if they are threatening foreign countries, bluffing, or leaking the situation in the mainland. Don't make trouble. "
How can a country that is so indifferent to its own people have a national growth?
