The Origin of new york City

Immigrants from Europe, the first to settle in today's new york are Dutch. As early as 16 13, the Dutch came to Manhattan Island (now a district of new york) and set up a trading warehouse there. Later, the Dutch became more and more powerful in Manhattan. 1623, they began to colonize this land. The Dutch named it the new Amsterdam, that is, adding the word "new" in front of the then capital of the Netherlands. Shortly thereafter, the British expeditionary force and the Dutch launched a fierce colonial battle, which ended in the failure of the Dutch. After the British Expeditionary Force occupied New Amsterdam, it was renamed new york on 1664. Britain still retains an ancient city, York, which was then the capital of Britain. Therefore, Colonel Coles of the British Expeditionary Force naturally thinks that it is more appropriate to replace New Amsterdam with new york. As for the naming of new york City, to some extent, it includes respect for James II, Duke of York at that time, and the king of England who ascended the throne in 1685. This is a complete coincidence.
