The "Practical Incident Handling Test" is a test related to actual work and is formulated based on the real work needs of police officers. This test is used to assess candidates' communication skills, judgment and fact-gathering abilities in Chinese and English. During the group interview, candidates will watch two short videos related to police incidents in a group format. During this period, candidates can watch each short video twice and excerpt notes. The "Practical Incident Handling Test" is divided into the following two parts:

Part I: Simulated Fact Collection Assessment - Candidates can record the events they described in Chinese and in the first person for 20 minutes.

Part II: Simulated Case Record Assessment - Candidates can record a brief police report in English for 10 minutes, which must contain date, time, location, description of people or property, etc.

In the second "self-introduction" session, all candidates will introduce themselves to the examiner in a group format, and then the examiner will ask questions about current affairs in Hong Kong or police affairs to initially assess the candidates' common sense. .

Applicants who can demonstrate mastery of foreign languages ??(such as Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Tagalog, French, German, Korean or Japanese, etc.) in the group interview, but not Mandarin or English) skills will receive additional points. Candidates' written and spoken language skills will be tested with the assistance of an interpreter. Candidates who claim to have mastery of foreign language skills must additionally complete Part I of the "Practical Incident Handling Test" in that foreign language. During the "self-introduction" period, candidates will also be tested by an interpreter on their oral language skills in the foreign language.

After "self-introduction", candidates will participate in a "group discussion" to discuss current affairs in Hong Kong or police force-related matters. "Self-introduction" and "Group Discussion" are designed to assess candidates' communication skills, judgment, common sense, confidence, and whether they can serve the community.

Psychological Assessment

Starting from April 1, 2010, police officer applicants are required to participate in an entry psychological assessment before attending the final selection interview.

Candidates are required to complete three paper-and-pencil questionnaires, which take about 3 hours in total. The purpose of the psychological assessment is to provide the final interview committee with additional information such as the candidate's cognitive ability, emotional resilience and personality traits. There is no pass or fail assessment result.

Psychological assessment is not used to directly select or eliminate candidates, but is for reference only.

Final Interview Committee (effective from May 1, 2011)

After passing the group interview, candidates will be invited to attend the final interview committee separately. The interview was conducted by two police officers. The moderator will ask the candidates questions about current affairs and police work to assess the candidates' self-confidence, judgment, expression ability, communication skills, analytical ability, resource management and determination to serve the community.
