Hainan Province is located in the southernmost tip of China. It is bounded by the Qiongzhou Strait to the north and Guangdong Province, to the west by the Beibu Gulf and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, to the east by the South China Sea and Taiwan Province, and to the southeast and south. It neighbors the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia in the South China Sea. At the end of 2022, the province’s permanent population was 10.2702 million, an increase of 65,600 from the end of the previous year. The urbanization rate of the permanent population was 61.49%, an increase of 0.52 percentage points. The number of births in the year was 88,100, with a birth rate of 8.60‰.
The number of deaths was 63,100, with a mortality rate of 6.16‰. In terms of age structure, the population aged 0-14 is 1.9525 million, the population aged 15-64 is 7.1553 million, and the population aged 65 and above is 1.1624 million.
The Han, Li, Miao and Hui ethnic groups in Hainan Province are the permanent residents. The other ethnic groups are cadres, employees and immigrants who moved in after the founding of the People's Republic of China and are scattered throughout the province. The Li people are the earliest inhabitants of Hainan Island.
Most of the Li, Miao and Hui people who have lived for generations live in Qiongzhong, Baoting, Baisha, Lingshui, Changjiang, Ledong and other autonomous counties in the central and southern parts of the country, as well as Sanya City, Dongfang City and Wuzhishan City. ; The Han population is mainly concentrated in the northeast, north and coastal areas.
