Five local thoroughbred pigs 1) Huaizhu Huaizhu is an ancient local breed originating from Huaibei Plain. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period BC, the agriculture in Huaibei Plain was quite developed. People need to raise pigs to eat meat and fertilize farmland, and gradually cultivate Huai pig breeds with the same size, appearance and production performance. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties in the 3rd-6th century and the Southern Song Dynasty in the12nd century, the economy of Huaibei Plain was destroyed by the war. After two large-scale migrations to the south, Huai pigs were introduced into hilly areas such as Ning, Zhen and Yang one by one, and after long-term cultivation, mountain pigs were formed. Later, with the development of coastal areas, Huai pigs moved eastward and gradually formed kitchen pigs adapted to coastal saline-alkali areas. Huai pig breeds in this province are divided into three types: Huaibei pig, mountain pig and stove pig. Its main features are: black and dense coat, shallow and few forehead wrinkles, long and straight mouth tube, compact body and strong limbs. Early sexual maturity, sows have more litters, with an average of 3-9 litters 13. The average daily gain of fattening pigs is about 475 grams, the feed reward is 4.57: 1, the carcass back and waist are thinner, the skin is thick, and the lean meat rate is as high as 45%. Huai pigs are mainly distributed in the hilly areas and coastal areas of Huaibei Plain, Ningxia, Zhenjiang and Yangzhou. At the end of 1970s, due to the large-scale popularization of Xinhuai pigs in Huaibei area, most of the local Huaihai pigs were replaced by Xinhuai pigs and their hybrids. By 1987, the central producing areas of Huai pigs were mainly concentrated in Ganyu, Yizheng, Gaoyou, Liyang, Gaochun, Dongtai, Dafeng and other counties, and the number of fertile sows ranked second in the province. (2) Taihu Pig Taihu Pig is a multi-type local breed produced in the coastal areas along the Yangtze River in the Taihu Basin in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the downstream coastal areas along the Yangtze River have developed into important grain-producing areas, and the number of pigs has increased. During the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1644- 16 1), a big-faced pig with thick bones, thick skin and many wrinkles appeared in the local area. Another Taoxiang pig evolved from Xiaohuai pig during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (185 1- 1864). Later, Daoxiang pig and big-faced pig crossed, and a small-faced pig (also called three-faced pig) was gradually formed between them. Small-faced pigs and big-faced pigs backcrossed and gradually formed a double-faced pig. With the emergence of a large number of hybrid pigs, the hybridization between hybrids and the backcross between hybrids and their parents also increased accordingly, and more types of pigs with different differences appeared. These various types of local pigs were formed by local Dahualian pigs and Huai pigs in various forms after long-term breeding by the masses before the end of the Qing Dynasty. From the Republic of China in this century to the 1950s after the founding of New China, Erhualian pigs with faster growth rate and more litters gradually replaced Dahualian pigs and Xiaohualian pigs, and developed into the largest and most influential pig breeds. 1974, many types of local pigs in this area have similar breed characteristics, formation history and ecological environment conditions, so they were named Taihu pig breeds. The remaining Taihu pigs in this province are divided into six types: Erhualian pig, Meishan pig, Fengjing pig, Hengjing pig, Rice pig and Shahetou pig. Its main characteristics: the coat is all black or blue-gray, and some hoofs or tail tips are white. The head is big and wide, the ears are big and drooping, the skin is thick, and there are obvious wrinkles on the forehead and hindquarters. Sows are famous for their fertility. The average litter size of 1-7 fetuses was 1-7 fetuses, reaching more than 12- 15. After 8 fetuses, the litter size decreased, among which Erhualian pig had the largest litter size, and the highest individual recorded 42 fetuses and 40 survived. The average daily gain of fattening pigs is about 443 grams, the feed reward is 4.63: 1, the slaughter rate is 70.29%, the meat quality is good, the meat color is bright red, the fiber is tender, and the carcass lean meat rate is about 42%. Taihu pigs are concentrated, Erhualian pigs are distributed in Jiangyin, Wuxi, Wujin, Changshu, Yixing and other counties (cities), Meishan pigs are in Taicang and Kunshan counties, Fengjing pigs are in Wujiang county, Hengjing pigs are in Wuxian county, Mi pigs are in Jintan and Yangzhong counties, and Shahetou pigs are in Qidong and Haimen counties. In 1980s, a small number of Taihu pigs moved northward to northern Jiangsu, where they were raised in other areas, and were introduced to Hubei, Heilongjiang and other provinces. Several batches (Meishan pigs) were exported to Japan, the United States, France and other nine countries. From 65438 to 0987, there were about 600,000 pigs and sows in Taihu Lake, ranking first in the number of local breeds. (3) Jiang Quhai Pig Jiang Quhai Pig is a young local breed produced in Taixian and Hai 'an areas on the north bank of the Yangtze River in this province. The sandy soil in this area lacks aggregate structure, which requires a lot of organic fertilizer and more pigs. People are used to feeding pigs with by-products such as brewing, oil pressing and grinding, and increasing grain output by applying pig manure, forming an ecological cycle of grain, oil and wine pigs. Under this specific natural and socio-economic condition, people use the local appellations of "local pig" and "sand pig" for long-term recurrent hybridization, and gradually cultivate a number of new early-maturing fattening pigs. According to the records in Haiqu Collection in the 23rd year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty (18 18), there are "non-Huaibei bitter-faced pigs" in the local area, which indicates that a variety of Jiangqu sea pigs have been formed at the beginning of this century. The main characteristics of Jiangquhai pig are: black coat, thin skin, short head, medium ears, short body, short legs, large and drooping abdomen. Sexual maturity is early, and the average litter size of 3- 10 sows is about 13. The average daily gain of finishing pigs is about 456 grams, the slaughter rate is 70.37%, the meat quality is delicious, and the carcass lean meat rate is 42.27%. Jiangquhai pig is distributed in Taixian and Hai 'an counties, and it is named because Jiangyan, Qutang and Hai 'an are the main distribution centers of this pig breed. It is also distributed in Rugao, Jiangdu, Xinghua, Gaoyou and other counties in He Lixia. (4) Zhuanzhong Zhuanzhong is a young local breed produced in the triangle of Taixing, Rugao and Nantong counties on the north bank of the Yangtze River in this province. There are Jiangquhai pigs in the north, Dahualian pigs and Erhualian pigs in the south, and kitchen pigs in the northeast. Pig breeds communicate frequently and interbreed with local pig breeds. After complex hybridization and long-term breeding by the masses, a new pig breed with large body, thick bone, thick fat and tight meat quality has been gradually cultivated. This breed of pig has a history of more than 80 years, just after Jiang Quhai pig. The main characteristics of Dongchuan pig are: black coat, large body, stout bones, high limbs, long body length, thick skin and deep wrinkles on the outer thigh, commonly known as "wearing pants". According to the head type, it can be divided into two types: "horse face type" and "lion head type". Sexual maturity is early, sows give birth to more babies, and the average litter size of the third fetus is about 14. The average daily gain of fattening pigs is about 446 grams, the slaughter rate is 68.2%, and the meat quality is good, which is suitable for processing cured meat products. It is famous for making delicious ham, and its carcass lean meat rate is 42.5438+0%. (5) Xinhuai Pig Xinhuai Pig is a new local breed bred earlier in Huaiyin area of our province after the founding of New China. From 1955, based on Huaiyin breeding farm, Yorkshire and Huai pigs were crossed. After more than 20 years of careful breeding, from 1977, it was officially identified by the provincial science and technology commission and announced as a new pig variety with both meat and fertilizer. The main characteristics of Xinhuai pig are: black coat, straight or slightly concave mouth, medium-sized ears drooping forward, straight back and waist, slightly larger abdomen but not drooping, slightly inclined hips and strong limbs. The reproductive rate is high, and the average litter size of multiparous sows is about 13. Good fattening performance, the average daily gain of fattening pigs is about 490 grams, and the slaughter rate is 72%. After the new Huai pig was bred, it was quickly extended to the middle and lower reaches of Huaihe River. Its distribution is mainly concentrated in Huaiyin city, followed by Xuzhou, Yancheng and Yangzhou. About 90,000 Xinhuai pigs were introduced from 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
