Are the township sites in Chengdu from the Warring States Period to the Qin and Han Dynasties well preserved?

According to reports, the Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology announced on the 6th that the settlement sites of grass-roots villages and towns from the Warring States Period to the Qin and Han Dynasties were found in Zhidu Village, Gucheng Town, Pidu District, Chengdu. The site is rich in accumulation, shallow in burial and well preserved.

According to Bai Yang, the person in charge of site excavation of Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, from June 20 17 to June 20 10, Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Archaeological Department of Sichuan University jointly carried out archaeological excavation on the site of Daozhi Village, and found the remains such as houses, kiln sites, wells, roads, moats and drainage ditches. In the Han dynasty, pottery pots, urns, pots, pots, tiles and other pottery were unearthed. In particular, it is rare to find a fragment of a binaural jar engraved with the words "X Xiangzi", which just shows that the site was a grassroots settlement at the township level.

"This is the first time that Chengdu has discovered a first-class settlement site of the Han Dynasty with clear written records." Bai Yang said.

In addition, archaeologists also found a bow hat near a road with a width of 4 meters in the Han Dynasty, which was part of the top cover of the "luxury carriage" in the Han Dynasty, proving that the site here was a prosperous settlement at that time.

Bai Yang said that from the information obtained from the excavation, Zhidao Village site is very rich, which is the best preserved settlement site in Chengdu Plain during the Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties, and even rare in China. "This site was abandoned after the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, but the damage to the site by future generations is very small. The site is only farmland, and the land remediation is shallow, so the damage to the early settlements is small and the settlements are well preserved. " Bai Yang said.

Experts from Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology believe that the discovery of Zhidao Village site is of great significance for understanding the production and lifestyle of people in grassroots settlements in Qin and Han Dynasties and the transition process of Chengdu Plain from ancient Shu civilization to Han civilization.
