When was Xinjiang? Occupied by who?
In p>1867, the "Zhede Sarkhan State" established by Akuba, a Central Asian (ethnic group unknown, maybe Uzbek or Tajik), was renamed as "Hongfu Khan State", which captured Kuqa and Korla, and occupied the southern part of present-day Xinjiang south of Tianshan Mountain. In the early 197s, Akuba regime, supported by Russia and England, had virtually controlled all Xinjiang. At the end of 187, the "Xiang Army" led by Zuo Zongtang, an official of the Han nationality in Hunan Province, entered the northern part of Xinjiang today, eventually destroying the "Hongfu Khan" and restoring the sovereignty of the Qing Empire.
