On April 13th, 1743, Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, was born into the family of a middle-class tobacco planter in Guchilan, Virginia (now Albemar County). He is not only a president, but also a lawyer, farmer, architect, musician and inventor.

Jefferson loved learning since he was a child. At the age of 9, he studied Greek, Latin and French under the guidance of a priest. By the age of 16, he had been able to read foreign original works independently because of his diligent study and hard study. In 176, Jefferson studied at William-Mary College in Williamsburg for two years, studying mathematics, rhetoric, philosophy and literature. After the North American War of Independence broke out, Jefferson attended the Second Continental Congress held in Philadelphia in May 1775, and was ordered to participate in the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence. Other members of the Committee-john adams, Benjamin Franklin, robert livingston and roger sherman agreed that Jefferson was the best person to draft this document, because he had a reputation for sharp writing and he represented Virginia, the most influential southern colony. On March 4, 185, Jefferson was re-elected president of the United States and signed a law prohibiting the importation of slaves from abroad.

The tombstone he designed for himself is engraved with the following humble epitaph: "Thomas Jefferson, the drafter of the Declaration of Independence, the drafter of the Virginia Religious Act, and the founder of the University of Virginia are buried here."
