How do mainlanders go to Hong Kong to be lawyers?

Lawyers in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region are divided into junior lawyers and barristers. In fact, there is no difference between the two, but the scope of practice is different.

The University of Hong Kong has a Postgraduate Diploma in Common Law, which is specially designed for mainlanders to go to Hong Kong for further study and then take the "Certificate in Law" course (one year). After obtaining a legal certificate, a person who wants to become a lawyer must first complete a two-year internship as a lawyer. A person who wants to be a barrister must complete his apprenticeship for one year before he can become a fully qualified barrister. Mainland personnel who want to engage in legal work in Hong Kong must receive common law training. The Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has set up a special common law training program for mainland legal personnel.

Those who are qualified as barristers or lawyers in the UK may also apply to practice in Hong Kong.
